Is it too late for me?

I finally got to have a birthing centre appointment today with a senior midwife at 14 weeks. It was a little delayed due to dating discrepancies and challenges with the midwife team (who didn't believe I was far gone as I was).

In around the last 3 months, I have put on over a stone and it's made my weight shoot up to a BMI over 40. I am obviously really disappointed about this and am doing my best to eat healthy and a good diet (due to food aversions), but the lady told me that as I was a little bigger I would have to take 2 baby asprins a day and a higher dosage of folic acid. I was given two letters and straight away went to my doctors for the prescriptions. Doctor's receptionist told me the prescriptions won't be ready until Tuesday afternoon.

My question is - am I right to worry about my weight gain here and not having these tablets sooner than now? Have I jepordised my pregnancy? I'm just even more worried I won't get the tablets until Tuesday and feel so anxious that the baby does have enough folic acid and it will therefore have something wrong with it.

Thanks for any guidance / helpful views in advance.

I’m sure it will be fine, they would have advised you if it was urgent. Have you been taking folic acid anyway? If not can you go buy some
to tide you over?

hi @TeaKitten - yes every day for 3 months, but only as it's in pregnacare vitamin I take. Maybe I should ask them if I should take folic acid separaetly until I get my prescription?

Thanks for responding.

Did you tell them you are taking the other vitamins? If not you should as they may want to
adjust the dose.

I was put onto both of those at my booking appointment when I was 8/9 weeks due to BMI (similar to yours). The Aspirin I didn't need to start until 12 weeks. I was taking pregnacare until then. Midwife wasn't concerned that I hadn't been taking the higher dose just said to stop taking the pregnacare when on the prescription ones. My prescription took a few days too. Hope that all makes sense!

I had hyperemesis gravidarum with both of my pregnancies, and couldn't even keep down the anti-sickness tablets, or water, never mind the folic acid or anything else they wanted me to have. Both babies were fine.

If it put your mind at ease just buy some aspirin it's dirt cheap, you can also easily get folic acid ...but honestly you are still early on, don't panic. I also had to take aspirin just for different reason, started about 13 weeks and stopped now at 37. There were times when I forgot or was not sure if already taken lol. You will be fine.

Just buy both from boots. It costs the NHS a fortune to give out prescriptions like this, and aspirin is dirt cheap. I also took aspirin from 14 to 36 weeks and baby was fine.

sorry I re read that and didn’t mean it to come across badly. Long day! Hope everything is ok.
