Community/ hospital midwives

Just wondering if anyone can offer me some advice on my situation. I am 8W1day and have chosen to give birth at a hospital outside of my local area. I have my booking in appointment with them and also my 2 ultrasound scans. They have informed me that they are not community midwives so I will still need to see my local area community midwives during my pregnancy. When do I go about booking with the community / local midwives during this process?

Now - they are the ones you should contact first and they forward the information on to the hospital of your choice at the booking in appointment. I've not heard of the hospitals doing booking in appointments?

I already have my booking in appointment booked in via the hospital but at the nearby birthing centre (rather than actual hospital). But just not sure when I go about seeing local midwives from after that first booking in appointment?!

You'd normally see a community midwife at 16 weeks. The schedule will be published online but from memory for a first baby it's usually 16,24,28,32,36,38,40.

I had my booking appt at the hospital and they booked my 16 week appt with the community midwives there and then. So I’d ask about it when you go for booking

Can be different in every Trust so you won't necessarily get the right advice here.

I never saw a community midwife till after birth. All my appointments were at the hospital which was in a different London borough to where I lived. Registered online with the hospital, got my booking appointment booked by them and made each next appt at the end of the previous one.

Then when I gave birth the hospital sent my details onto the Croydon midwives to visit me at home.
