Successful scans at 6 weeks?

Ttcmumma · 10/08/2023 14:34

So due to having a 14 week MMC in January, epu have booked me in to have a scan at 6 weeks 2 days going by LMP tho my natural cycles app predicts I'm about 2 days ahead of that.

However I've seen so many stories on here about people panicking because they couldn't see what needed to be seen that early on. So I'm a little worried it will just cause more anxiety!

Anyone have any positive stories of 6 week scans?

First baby they saw a heart beat at 5 weeks and 5 days.

Second baby was around 7 weeks so it can vary

Good luck x

ES1986 · 10/08/2023 14:37

I saw a heartbeat at 6+4. Fingers crossed for you

Sunshineclouds11 · 10/08/2023 14:37

6w1d we saw a heartbeat.

Originally thought I was 7 though.

Ttcmumma · 10/08/2023 14:40

Thank you ladies! My last two pregnancies I always ended up being a couple of days further along than I expected but never had a scan this early so hopefully they will see what they need x

I had two pregnancies scanned at 6 weeks and saw heartbeats for both. The important thing to remember is that you may be too early and not to panic.

Hey! Thought I’d jump on as I’ve had mixed scans!, my DD I had a very clear image at 6 weeks 1 day (measuring 5wks 5days but I was infact 6wks 1 day), I’ll attach that (1st pic), I’m currently now 7 weeks pregnant tomorrow with DC #2 and went for a scan at 6 wks 1day and apparently I have a tilted uterus (was never told in the past) and she was having a tough time seeing anything.. we did see the baby in the end, saw the little dot and a flickering heartbeat, barley a shadow of a yolk sac, (2nd picture is 1st scan of it’s this pregnancy) but just a super difficult scan and didn’t see things as clearly as with my daughter.

Fast forward to this Tuesday just gone (3 days after that difficult scan) and I had a bleed.. second one of this pregnancy. Booked in for another private scan as EPU were brushing me off, this scan was specifically if you’ve experienced pain&bleeding, they check everything out (was a more expensive clinic too), went and we saw baby so clear, yolk sac clear as day, heartbeat strong and healthy and could even see the shape of the baby! (3rd picture) Was measuring at 7.1mm this time which is 4mm more than they said 3 days prior at my other scan! (First scan was 2.3mm largest measurement)

I was in a different position this time and perhaps the equipment was better due to the price being more.

Fingers crossed for you OP x

@Emilyadams98 oh interesting! Sometimes I think it depends on the sonographer too tbh, how experienced they are and how in depth they look into things. So was the more expensive clinic that was more thorough window to the womb? I've seen some not too far from me so handy to know if needs be

Yes! I had a 4D scan with my daughter there too, they are amazing, really lovely in there and the clinics feel super relaxing, it was only £15 more (this was on offer, they’re usually £90 scans but always have £70 on offer lol), but I would definitely recommend them, as I doubt the baby grew 4mm in 3 days and changed to a clearer position in my uterus lol, the first women I had seemed pretty experienced also, she was middle aged and seemed to know what she was doing, however the second scan at window to the womb was a younger gentleman, but definitely knew what he was doing too!, was a lot more informative and saw I actually had a subchorionic hematoma. I think the equipment was definitely better in window to the womb

Ah good luck OP, it's so nerve wracking.

I had a scan at 7+1 due to a previous MMC and baby was dating perfectly.

Fingers crossed all goes well for you and you see a little flicker, although it's still early x

Bibijuju · 10/08/2023 15:53

I had the same experience as @Sunshineclouds11, I also thought I was 7 weeks and measured around 6. My due date ended up being moved back 6 days at the 12 week scan.
I went to EPU for bleeding and side pain (suspected ectopic) -everything was good and I’m now 27 weeks!

Ttcmumma · 11/08/2023 10:32

Ladies, mild AF type cramps are fine right? Epu have scared me... When my doctor referred me for an early scan she asked if I had pain or bleeding and I said no, just mild cramps which I assume are normal I just want to be referred because that's what epu advised when I had a mmc in January. Anyway she wrote on my notes that I have pain, maybe as an excuse to get me in easier? Tho she didn't actually clarify that mild cramping is normal I just assumed. Anyway yesterday epu gave me an appointment for 21st when I'm 6 weeks but today a lady is calling me telling me I have to come in today because the doctor said I have pain and any pain is pain, so I should be seen. after going back and forth for a while explaining that I didn't call the GP because of pain, but because of the MMC advise, i just answered mild cramping when the doctor asked if I had pain... She decided to let me just keep my appointment for the 21st. Now I'm panicking 😅. I do have a very high pain threshold, I'm not just overlooking these mild pains am I? Google says they're normal and usually Google says your dying if anything 😅

Don’t panic. Cramping is normal. I remember the nurse asking me how I felt at my 6 week scan and I said ‘normal apart from cramping’ and she looked at me kindly and told me that was perfectly normal. I’d say your Doctor was just trying to get you seen earlier.

LavenderSweetPea · 11/08/2023 11:04

I had an early scan due to a previous ectopic, I was exactly 6 weeks and saw a little baby with a heartbeat (really just a collection of cells at that point but you know what I mean!) and yes, mild AF cramping for me was totally normal, I had it nearly constantly until about 7 weeks and then it just went away. I'm now 13+5.

Ttcmumma · 11/08/2023 11:09

Thanks ladies! I guess my doctor exaggerated to get me seen and so epu acted on that. I'm only 5 weeks tomorrow going by LMP so they wouldn't have seen anything today anyway I'm guessing

WannaBeRecluse · 11/08/2023 11:20

I saw a heartbeat at 5 weeks 3 days. I knew I might not so had already decided not to panic if we didn't, but it was clear.

Alloveragain3 · 11/08/2023 11:32

I cramped loads until about 9 or 10 weeks.
Baby nestling in!

The reason they probably wanted you in was because they were concerned it might be ectopic if you were complaining of pain. So today they’d just be looking to see if they can confirm the location of the pregnancy.

Rpsches917 · 12/08/2023 07:23

I had a scan this week at 6w 4d after quite a lot of cramping (2 previous losses so under Tommy's and the clinic squeezed me in early as EPU was going to be 3 days before they could see me). Measuring 6w exactly she said, strong heartbeat

Baby202 · 12/08/2023 08:25

Mine were 6+4 and 6+3, wasn’t that hopeful for the second one but both were fine and had a heartbeat

Ttcmumma · 21/08/2023 10:40

Hey ladies, thought id update now I had the scan this morning. Baby was seen and heartbeat too. Measuring 4mm crl, does this sound about right? She said 6 weeks. I'm 6+2 by LMP or 6+4 going by ovulation

Congrats!

Not sure on measurements but your days can deffo be out afew days either way!

I was advised to wait until nhs 12 week scan to get my proper due date and that would be the one they'd stick with.

ES1986 · 21/08/2023 17:56

Congratulations! 💐

Ttcmumma · 21/08/2023 18:12

Thank you ladies, lost my last at 10+6 so don't think I'll fully relax until after 12 week scan atleast but glad to see all is ok so far!
