6 weeks - heavy bleeding but scan showed gestational sack - help

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone may be able to help or share their experience.

I am currently 6 weeks pregnant, last Thursday I experience a very heavy bleed which I assumed must have been a miscarriage due to the extent of the bleeding.

I felt no pain but went to A&E to get checked out, the doctor said he thought it may be a partial miscarriage and that he would arrange for an early pregnant scan.

we went away from this assuming we had lost the baby as the way it was told to us it was almost certainly the case.

Fast forward to today - we went for our scan and was told that they could see a gestational sack with fetal pole but that it was too early to determine if this was viable.

There was also evidence that there was a bleed above the gestational sack. We have been told we need to go back for another scan in 10 days to see if this grows.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? I am trying so hard not to get my hopes up but seeing the sack and fetal pole really has made us a tiny bit more hopeful.

They have stated either three options will happen before they see us again; I will pass the baby naturally, the baby will not grow when we get our next scan or the baby will continue to grow.

Anyone who has gone through similar please let me know the outcome. This wait is killing me.

Happened to me and I was convinced I lost the baby only to go for a confirmation scan and to see a beautiful heartbeat. That heartbeat is now 18 months old 🥰 I hope you get a positive outcome x

Im in the same boat, currently 2 weeks bleeding/spotting, no pain or discomfort, in my first scan (7.5 weeks after last period) a heartbeat could be seen but it was 6,5 weeks size, just waiting for the next scan next week, taking progesterone currently. I hope everything goes fine for you OP!

I had a follow up scan today and the bleed could be seen on the scan but not near the baby and all good. Hopefully the same for you OP! Xx

12 more days till our next scan - they wouldn’t see us any earlier to check growth. It’s torture waiting.

I had the heaviest bleed ever when i was 8 weeks and it all turned out to be ok. I know it's so difficult but please try not to worry xx

Happened to me 3 times during the first 9 weeks, very healthy toddler now!

@Summer2424 thank you for sharing, that makes me feel so much better. I’m sorry you had to go through a heavy bleed, I know that must have been so scary but so glad it all worked out well for you. I will try and keep positive x

I’ve experienced two of the outcomes that you’ve listed.

I had very heavy bleeding in my first pregnancy last year and they scanned me and could see a gestational sac etc. and said that they’d scan me again in 10days unfortunately I didn’t make it to the 10days and passed the sac before that.

I fell pregnant again not too long after my miscarriage and I had very heavy bleeding with clots and automatically assumed the worst I had a scan at the EPU who weren’t very hopeful at all and there was a very happy 8wk old little jellybean in there. I had bleeding on and off until 26wks and it was honestly terrifying but I’m now 30wks with my rainbow baby.

So it could go either way.
