Sweep - cervix soft but high - any successful stories?

Hi all,

had a sweep today at 39+2. Midwife said she couldn’t get a finger in my cervix as it was too high, but she was able to graze the outside of it. She couldn’t tell if I was dilated but said it felt soft and she could feel some pressure from babies head.

I am doubtful that anything will happen as I think this is classed as an unsuccessful sweep, but midwife said you never know it might trigger something.

has anyone had success with a similar situation? I am very anxious about my booked induction next week so trying everything to go into labour before my induction date.

thanks all!

I had an 'unsuccessful' sweep that triggered period-like cramps which led to labour starting the next morning. Good luck!

@GreenIsTheMagicColour thank you! That is reassuring. Fingers crossed

With my first I got induced and my cervix was high. Had a sweep and my waters broke that night 😂 xx

Unsuccessful sweep and a closed cervix at 1pm, baby born 4:30am!

@justanothermanicmonday1 and @lavenderdilly wow! That is really reassuring. Maybe her grazing it will do something 🤞sweep was yesterday around 4pm and nothing yet but I just hope it’s encouraged something. I have my next one in 1 week which is 2 days before I am scheduled for induction! Thanks for sharing :)

Might be obvious , but if not too uncomfortable , could you try having sex ?

Lalalul · 08/08/2023 19:15

@RuthTopp definitely giving that a go but not until tomorrow! It’s been over 24hrs now and I don’t feel different so not confident this one has worked. Hey ho

@Lalalul sounds similar to me and I went back a week later and still didn't get any further - I felt super deflated. After 1st unsuccessful sweep, I booked an induction ... I made this request as baby was measuring on the bigger side. I ended up having PROM and was induced before my induction date; baby came at 40+5 by emergency c sec.

Lalalul · 09/08/2023 08:43

@FlyOnTheWall89 thanks for sharing! I’m hoping if this one isn’t successful, my next at 40+2 will be. I have induction booked for 40+4 that I am hoping to avoid :(. Hope you and baby were ok emergency c section sounds like it may have been scary

Walk , bounce on a ball , nipple stimulation , curry and fresh pineapple.

@Lalalul baby clearly not keen! Ha. Was actually totally fine - my waters broke high up and I sort of didn't know if it was just fluid or my waters for around a day. It was trickle trickle trickle sort of thing. Long story short, after 20 ish hours labour, my waters had been broken for over 60 so chance of infection just got too risky and had a c sec. Baby very calm throughout. All unplanned c sections are called emergency but there are different categories. Healed amazingly and whilst obviously painful, it was a straightforward recovery that was much quicker than I thought! Hope baby comes soon, ENJOY ENJOY ENJOY, it is pure magic!
