fibroid covering cervix

My week 20 scan last week showed that my fibroid is now positioning low and in the way of baby's exit. I am already scheduled for c-section at week 39 for another medical reason so this won't change my birth plan that much but today in my consultant appointment, I was told that having a fibroid this low would mean that they will need to cut above it in the c-section and because it's a thicker part of the uterus there will be higher chance of haemorrhage and it will be considered a high risk c-section. She mentioned in passing about me having to take some medicine closer to the surgery but that will be something we discuss later on. The next step for me is to have a scan and then an appointment with the consultant at week 36 to see if the fibroid's position has changed although the consultant was of the opinion that it won't.

I wanted to see if anyone else here has had a pregnancy/ c-section with a low-lying fibroid? Did your fibroid eventually move out of way? and if you ended up having c-section because of the position of fibroid, how did they manage the risk of bleeding? What special precautions were in place on the day of your surgery? I am wondering how things will play out if I go into labour before the scheduled surgery at week 39 and end up having an emergency c-section...

Hi, I know its been a while since this has been posted but I was just wondering how things turned out?

I've had a consultant scan today and face the same c section possibilities due to the location of my fibroid. I find out for definite in 3 weeks time but just wondered how others experiences had been with different incisions etc and the high risks.

Hi @ai38 @RMB1243 @Tahsha I was wondering how your c-sections / deliveries all went in the end, would you be able to post an update?

I am 18wks and think I am in a similar position with my fibroid, which used to he just under my belly button but I can feel it has moved down toward the cervix. It's 9x6 and so big I can feel it manually at this stage. Not sure if it is blocking the cervix but I imagine it could be and worried about what this means for delivery.

Following as I'm in early pregnancy and just been told I have a fibroid from an early scan.
The position is not a concern at the moment but it will have to be monitored so I'm interested to hear how this turned out for you all.

Hi, I can't give any advice on the C section side but will tell you my experience.

So I started to get really bad pains at about 32 weeks. Went and got checked out and it was my little girls head pushing on the fibroid. From then it was always certain that I would have a C section. I was getting the pains because she was trying to move down and she couldn't get her head passed the growth.

I was checked every two weeks and it was always the same. Until 37 weeks, 5 days. I went in to sign all of the forms for my section and get the date. They did one last check to see where she was positioned and she had managed to move down passed the fibroid and was engaged. The fibroid was now well clear of my cervix and they gave me the option of a natural labour instead. 2 days later I had an induction and our healthy little girl arrived safe and well on her dad's birthday at exactly 38 weeks!

Sorry it's no help with the C section side of things but maybe will be helpful just to keep in mind that things can change at the very last minute.

This sounds exactly like mine. It was about the same size and felt like a tennis ball in my lower abdomen when my pregnancy got further on. It was on the left side of my womb and sometimes it would stick out depending on babies position

@RMB1243 thanks so much for the update, that is really helpful, and really pleased that it all worked out well and your baby girl arrived safely.

It does sound like things can change a lot at the last minute, which I think I'm going to find hard - I like a plan! I also had a late miscarriage in my last pregnancy which doesn't help with the nerves of it all.
