Baby measuring big

I had a growth scan due to reduced movements at 31 weeks. At all other scans my whole pregnancy baby has measured bang on 50th centile. Bump measurements just 2 weeks earlier we're 50th centile too. Growth scan said 92nd and they've petrified me saying I will need induction/CS due to babies size. I've had GTT & not heard anything so presuming that means it was all ok. Anyone experienced this? I feel like they've been very OTT & scared me just after 1 scan!!

They are normally quite far out, or they were in my case!

At 37+0 I was scanned and the estimated weight then was about 7lb 2oz. 10 days later baby arrived and was 6lb 7oz.

Try not to panic x

Honestly these scans are often nonsense. They are so inaccurate. Also babies have growth spurts in the womb too so won't just grow nicely against a chart on a weekly basis. Try not to worry. Chances are next scan it will be back on track. This obsession with not allowing women to give birth to big babies is mad! They did this to me and I refused induction until 42+2. She was 10lb 6 but they had told me she was already this sort of size 3 weeks earlier 🤷 I had one small tear and that's was it - IF the baby is big it's more than likely you can give birth to it - remember they can't make you do anything and this idea that they won't 'let you go over x weeks' etc. is nonsense xxx

Good luck and congrats xxx

Are they offering you a follow up scan in a few weeks? I had growth scans because I had gestational diabetes and was booked for induction on my due date but went into labour naturally the night before!

@Goingcrazyimsure @Redpanda21
Thank you so much for that reassurance. I'm quite petite myself so to be told that the baby is going to be too big for my to birth was very scary. I wasn't worried about Labour at all and trusted my abilities but now they've made me feel like I won't cope!! Hopefully they're wrong!

@SouthwestSis yes the midwife said she can refer me at 36 weeks, still over a month to go until I find out what on earth is going on and if I'll need a C-section! I'm so anxious x

Just because the baby is big doesn't mean you will automatically need intervention. You might, of course- but you might whatever the baby's size. Try not to panic and wait and see. I was constantly being told, with lots of head shaking, how big my baby was and it made me very anxious, until I had a doctor who I hadn't seen before. I'll remember forever his big smile as he felt my (very large) bump and said "What a lovely sturdy baby!" Made me feel soooo much better. I wish I could remember his name!

Exactly this! Big babies are wonderful! Try not to worry and take it all as it comes. There is a rush to intervene these days. Remember it's your body and your baby and ultimately the choice about how you give birth is yours. You can make that decision yourself when the time comes xxx

@Goingcrazyimsure He's 22 now, and I still sometimes look at him and think "What a lovely sturdy baby!"🤣
