OHSS and pregnant, experiences?

Hoping for a bit of advice from anyone who may have been in a similar postion or have any expertise in this area!

I have recently been in hopsital diagnosed with OHSS following IVF, whilst there my bloods showed I am pregnant which explained why my symptoms got so much worse. I am currently 4w5d so very early days. I had no risk factors for OHSS which is why the clinic went ahead with fresh transfer.

My bloating and discomfort has improved quite a bit in the last day and whilst this is a relief in lots of ways, it's also worrying me as I had expected the symptoms to continue with the HCG increasing. So I'm now worrying that perhaps it isn't- I have had a previous loss so I know I'm going to be more attuned to these things. I'm avoiding doing any hoke tests as I know I will get obsessed with comparing lines.

I am going to do a private beta for assurance and I have a scan in a few weeks, but wondered if anyone knew if it was normal for the symptoms to improve even with a pregnancy progressing? Trying not to spiral!

Hi lovely!

I had mild OHSS, following a fresh transfer. I also wasn’t at “risk” but still developed it. I didn’t end up in hospital luckily but the symptoms weren’t very nice.

Around 4.5-5 weeks, all my OHSS symptoms disappeared and like you- I thought this meant the pregnancy wasn’t progressing as I assumed the more hcg the worse it would get!!! (I even wrote a similar post to this😂)

But all was absolutely fine, and I’m now 33 weeks with our little miracle boy💙 so don’t read too much into it! X

Hi @Izzie94x thank you so much for responding, thats very reassuring! I don't think I have fully processed the pregnancy yet and keep expecting something to go wrong.. I also feel like there isn't a huge amount out there about OHSS so it's really helpful to hear your experience.

Huge congratulations on your pregnancy, not long until you get to meet him now :)

Hi @Walker12
I am in exactly the same position as you. I had very mild OHSS upon Egg retrieval. On transfer day they checked and I did have fluid only a small amount and my ovaries were enlarged but the transfer went ahead anyway as the doctors said it would be ok and wasn't severe enough
I am now 6 weeks and all those bloaty symptoms have eased off when I was also told it would get worse so I'm panicking too .
I have a private scan booked for next week .
How did things turn out for you? Hope everything is ok

Hi @Pocketrocket89, congrats on your pregnancy! I can happily say my pregnancy is going well and I am now just over 21 weeks. So I was absolutely worrying for nothing and it seems that OHSS doesn't always get worse! My ovaries were still slightly enlarged even at my 12 week scan, but I had no pain/discomfort from it. I hope your scan goes perfectly next week 😊
