Bleeding at 8 weeks pregnant

Hi, I am currently 8 weeks pregnant and yesterday afternoon I had some bright red blood in my trousers and when I wiped after the toilet, it looked a bit like the start of a period… I haven’t had any since yesterday evening but I have just been to the toilet and have a small clot as pictured below in the last photo. I have a scan booked for Tuesday but can’t stop worrying. Sorry for the pics… has anyone had anything like this? I can’t imagine it’s implantation bleeding as I think it would be too late for that? My morning sickness has also suddenly stopped, but I started taking tablets for that yesterday so I don’t know if it’s related to the tablets or if I am miscarrying?…

Hi @Anonymousssss - I had bleeding (much, much worse than this!) throughout both of my pregnancies and everything was fine. I was obsessively googling as I really thought it was game over, but I found that it's really common to bleed in the first trimester and there's often no explanation for it, just one of those scary things that happens.

Do you have any cramping or backache? I think if you have either of those symptoms in addition to heavy bleeding, then that would be more of a cause for concern.

No harm in giving your EPAU a call on Monday to see what they say Flowers

Hi @RedPandaFluff thanks for replying. I’ve had no cramping or anything like that, I’m keeping my fingers crossed. It’s hard to know what’s normal and what’s not. I had a tiny clot yesterday but nothing apart from that. They’ve booked me in for a scan on Tuesday to check everything is okay so I’m just keeping hope until then🤞🏼 thank you☺️

Hopefully that will put your mind at rest - good luck!

Hi I had this with my last pregnancy, small clots and everything! Turned out to be a sub chronic haematoma (excuse the spelling) which wasn’t harmful to the baby but was terrifying for me! I had spotting for pretty much the duration of my pregnancy. I am 8+1 now and have light spotting and hoping it’s ok! Definitely ring the EPU and ask for a scan. Good luck 🤞

How did you get on at the scan op?

How did it all go? I’ve had similar and I’m worrying :(

Hi! It was all okay and I am now 20 weeks pregnant with a little girl💗 so I went for my scan that Tuesday and saw a heartbeat, they couldn’t tell me what caused it but in my opinion I think it was possibly a cyst that popped. The photo’s I posted were probably the worst of it and got lighter over the next couple of days and then completely stopped about 5 days after these photo’s. I have had no bleeding since! I hope it’s all okay for you but I would suggest phoning your maternity unit and see about booking in a scan as soon as possible. And if it does become heavier or is accompanied by any cramping or back pain, please go to A&E.
Here if you want to chat x
