Sex In pregnancy

I'm 28 weeks pregnant and my husband and I tried to have sex around 14 weeks. It didn't really work it was uncomfortable and very short lived.
My partner is supportive but we do both feel like we are missing sex.
I feel swollen down there but not in a painful way just puffy. We've tried foreplay but it's just not really working
Has anyone else experienced this before. I've spoken with friends and they've said they've all had no issues.
Just wondering if it's normal or I should go get checked out.
Again no pain to report or anything untoward

Worth mentioning to your midwife. Have you got an appointment this week? Sorry it’s getting you down.

OneMoreCookieMonster · 03/08/2023 21:16

The extra blood you're carrying can make it uncomfortable. I personally loved pregnant sex and couldn't get enough. But, it did take me more time to get into it. Needed more cuddles and kisses before even getting down to foreplay. I also found that ditectly after a shower or bath was the most comfortable. And more upright positions helped as well. Couldn't be on my back at all. Try playing around and seeing if anything works. It doesn't have to always end in sex, you can still be intimate in other ways.

What do you mean by “It’s not working”?
it can get a bit awkward position wise much later on but never had any issue other than the belly getting in the way a bit.

I couldn’t think of anything worse when I was pregnant! We’re all just different.

PickledScrump · 03/08/2023 22:19

I’m currently pregnant with my third, all three times I couldn’t think of anything worse. Awkward and uncomfortable. I’d love to be one of those people who loved sex when pregnant, but it’s just not for me. It’s completely normal

Beefcurtains79 · 03/08/2023 22:21

Cant you just wait?

ktsch · 03/08/2023 22:28

@OneMoreCookieMonster thanks I think maybe will give it a bit more before actually trying to get looser 😂
@HippeePrincess it's just hard to get it in (sorry tmi) I've never had an issue before but I think just because I'm swollen it just doesnt seem to go in easy and then I'm just tense and thinking it's going to hurt and it then just makes it all worse

@Beefcurtains79 well I'm missing it, yeah we could wait but pre pregnancy we were very active and it's something I miss. Then obviously it gets more uncomfortable the further on you get then birth/ healing etc it's just a long time

@AnneLovesGilbert I had it today and felt a bit daft mentioning it. Everything was fine with the baby and I just thought I would ask here first to see if it was a common thing x

Op sounds simple but have you tried a good lube? I also find I need it when post partum/breastfeeding. The expensive kind - not durex/boots on display type.

6WeekCountdown · 04/08/2023 08:29

With my first we had some sex early on but we stopped completely probably where you are now. I just found it uncomfortable having a bump and my husband found it weird having sex when there's a baby right there. We stopped way earlier with our second and third child, I was uncomfortable way earlier and I just didn't feel like it. Was rather unfortunate I had quite bad birth injuries after my third and couldn't have sex for a year afterwards! So maybe you should try enjoy it now...

ktsch · 04/08/2023 08:31

@Callmemummynotmaaa no actually! It's not something we've ever needed in the past. What brand do you recommend? Thank you

I'm 13 weeks and I really miss sex too! Nothing stopping us other then my anxiety of the fear it will cause something to go wrong!

We had sex about a week before I had a miscarriage last time and although it was nothing to do with that, its just the memory of it.

Also, I keep getting recurrent thrush so I'm concerned form that aspect too!

Miss it so much though! 😛

HippeePrincess · 04/08/2023 18:44

Personally I’d mention that level of swelling to the midwife.
