I've read that sleeping on your back is not good for the baby. Been sleeping on my side but my god my hips are killing me. Last 2 nights I've been awake trying to get comfy on either side and the pain is unreal so no sleep for me. Is there anything I can do to sleep better and get comfy.

Are you putting a pillow between your legs ?

Mummyo1 · 03/08/2023 07:49

Pregnancy pillow!

Depending what stage you are in pregnancy? Very early on up to around 18-20 weeks is ok on back

I've just had my 20 week scan.

It's agony isn't it!!!
I posted about this a few days ago on here as well.
I'm 22 weeks and nothings helps, pregnancy pillow and normal pillow in between legs or around my body for support doesn't help at all.
I found the last few nights I have had to actually get up and walk around for 5 mins or so while massaging my hip just to ease the pain then I go back to bed and try again 😭
It's a lot of sleepless nights - never had this my previous pregnancy 🤦🏽‍♀️

Pregnancy pillow was life changing for me! So worth the money, you can pick one up for £20/30

Yes it's just been the last 2 nights and I'm thinking theres many more nights off pain to come. Worst thing is I have a slipped disc in my neck as well so havent been able to sleep on my left arm since 2021 but now my right arm is horrendous so cant sleep in that either 😂😒😭.

Oh no! 😢
I slipped a disc in my lower back in March so I feel your pain I struggle to turn from side to side 😭
Try getting up and massaging the hip for 5 mins then try to sleep again, For me it's agony both sides x

I have this too, the only thing that helps (barely) is walking around, carefully squatting down to release the glutes and then kind of laying on my knuckles and digging them into my hip and glute to release the muscles. I’ve read that exercising your bum and doing hip mobilisations can help, have only been doing them a few days after a very sedentary 15 weeks of morning sickness and exhaustion.

in my first pregnancy I bought a soft foam mattress topper and it really helped, might have to do it again.

Sleeping on your side is only really for the third trimester. Before then if you want to sleep on your back I would. Pregnancy is uncomfortable enough without unnecessary suffering.
