So sad all the time. Hormones?

is it normal to feel sooo low, like all I wanna do is cry for hours at a time.
im 5 weeks pregnant and the past week has been rough with anxiety and depression. I have no real reason to feel so down, so I’m assuming this is hormones but it’s unbearable at times. I just feel so sad all the time.
please someone tell me this is normal and it will pass? Or any advice on managing it?
I’m so close to going to my GP about this cos it’s just so bad!

It is normal, but see your GP as you don’t know how long it will take to pass, and it’s awful feeling like that.

Do you have a supportive partner or trusted friend you can turn to? Or even if you’re not ready to tell anyone yet, just planning an evening or day out can lift your mood.

Some people are able to practice mindfulness meditation to help with anxiety and depression, but others just need distraction: music, podcasts, exercise, socialising.

You should tell the GP.

Normal but also tell gp or midwife, they can assess whether you need extra help or not. Let yourself cry - you are so tired and hormonal- and don't feel guilty or that you 'should be so happy' as that will make you worse!

Sorry you're feeling this way OP - I would be inclined to say it may be common but not necessarily normal. And as women we should be wary of falling into the trap of blaming hormones for the way we feel and feeling like we have to put just up with it 'because hormones' It may well be hormones but equally perhaps you could use some extra support. Your GP or midwife should be able to advise. X

hormones can affect mood but from what you have described I would say how you are feeling is not normal. Definitely contact your gp and also mention to your midwife when you get booked in. There a maternity mental health teams available to help you deal with these feelings
