Dilated bowel loop and echogenic bowel - 20 weeks scan. /amniocentesis

Hi all,

This is my second pregnancy, I went to my 20 week scan on Monday and was told there is a echogenic bowel and there is a single bowel loop. Was referred to foetal medicine and they have confirmed that is the case. Have had the test for cystic fibrosis, the various viruses, and booked in for NIPT on Friday.

Have been offered amniocentesis on Thursday - has anyone had this done in a similar situation ? I am really trying to work out what is best to do. I am told that if they rule out things such as downs syndrome, cystic fibrosis etc, I am left with it could all be fine, it could be an obstruction that is repairable, or could be an obstruction that is linked to something genetic.

Has anyone got any thoughts on amniocentesis through experience ?

Has anyone had this situation and everything has been okay ? I am 22 weeks pregnant this week and I am in bits.

Can anyone help ? I had the amnio on Thursday, I just want to know if anyone had a echogenic bowel and single dilated loop at 21 weeks and what the outcome was ?

I am desperate.

Hello how are you? They saw echogenic bowel at my 20 week scan too. I had blood tests and amniocentesis which came back clear thankfully. Just now waiting for next appt to keep monitoring bowel and fetal growth as it’s associated with small for gestational age. Sorry I don’t know anything about the dilated bowel loop
