Can I request my section to be brought forward to 38 weeks?

Hi there,

I was already booked in for 39 weeks, but have since been monitored as baby is breech. I have a 37 week scan on Thursday to check position.
Is it at all likely they'll bring this forward? I am extremely uncomfortable and struggle to do anything at all (except lie on my side).

Thank you, any advice welcome!

Hi, my little girl was breech from week 36 discovered after midwife sent me for a growth scan. I then had to wait till 37 weeks for a presentation scan and she was still breech. They didn’t actually book me in for a C-section until 38 weeks after having another scan but wouldn’t book it till I was 39 weeks exactly. I was so uncomfortable, couldn’t sit down as she was right there all the time, was surviving on next to no sleep and the heartburn was awful.
No advice but a lot of sympathy!

It wouldn't hurt to ask, but my c section for the same reason was booked at 39 weeks. They wouldn't book it any earlier than that.

Definitely ask although they are likely to be booked up in advance. I had mine at 38+1 so its definitely doable.

Very unlikely, especially if it's just because you aren't comfortable. A section doesn't stimulate the lungs the way labour does, so sections are very deliberately done at 39 weeks to make sure the lungs are at full maturity.

@Lottalove87 this is exactly the same as me :-(
I am booked in for exactly 39 weeks, but I'd love 38! I'm so uncomfortable it is wild! Thank you for your reply, not looking hopeful for 38 but feeling less alone!

@AlligatorPsychopath I thought as much, it's not a medical reason!
Not long to go (2.5 weeks)!

@tweener I did think as much, worth an ask but not feeling very hopeful when it's not a medical issue!

Unless medically needed they don't like to do it any earlier, even that last week there are huge changes in maturity of baby's lungs etc
