4 weeks pregnant - brown discharge

Hey guys,

So I'm 4 weeks + 3 days pregnant and have been experiencing very light brown discharge when I wipe. This isn't every time and it's only very very light. I've also got some mild cramps (like mild period cramps) and occasionally have been feeling light headed.

This is my 1st pregnancy and my sister has recently had 3 miscarriages so I naturally feel petrified. I have a Dr's app tomorrow but wondered if anyone had any advice/ context behind this?

I had brown spotting early in both my pregnancies. Sometimes light, sometimes dark. Both times things were absolutely fine in the end but it made me so so anxious.

I went to the docs the first time and she basically told me that this happens in a lot of pregnancies.. a lot of the time it’s absolutely nothing. Sometimes it’s the start of a miscarriage and if it is there is nothing they can do so it’s just a waiting game.

At 4 weeks there won’t be a heartbeat to see on a scan so I’m really sorry but you will probably just need to wait it out.

Thank you so much for this. The fact that yours turned into 2 healthy pregnancies is reassuring.
You see so much online and on Google it's so so easy to think the worse and I think as women we always think the worst and over think!
I've already booked in for a private early scan at 6weeks1day so I'll just have to ride it out until then 🙏🏻

Hey x just wondering how this turned out for you as I currently have the same issue with brown discharge and I’m 4 weeks today is the day I would usually get my period and that’s when the brown blood started. Thankyou xx

Hi @Shakira93 I hope you are doing okay ☺️ this slight bit of discharge for me at the time, was totally okay. I spoke with my GP who said that a slight bit of discharge is totally normal and is often most likely to be nothing! It could be your uterus stretching and body changing etc.

I unfortunately started again with brown discharge at almost 11 weeks and wasn't so lucky this time and ended up miscarrying. Although the two times were not related at all.

Let me know how you go xx
