Bangor Hospital Maternity Unit experiences

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any recent experience of giving birth at Bangor Hospital.

I’m currently registered at St Mary’s Hospital, London, but due to be moving to Bangor when I’ll be 28 weeks pregnant.

I have the option of staying at St Mary’s for the birth or moving my maternity care to Bangor and I was hoping for some ideas of what the maternity care is like in Bangor.

This will be my second child, first born via EMCS following foetus distress. I have been cleared to give birth on the midwife led unit at St Mary’s, not the labour ward and would be hoping for the same at Bangor.

I have no personal experience as I'm due to give birth at Glan Clwyd (next hospital down) but I have met a few people who have given birth there before and have only had nice things to say about the medical staff there and their experiences.

The health board in general has higher than average induction and c-section rates (I'm not sure why this is) so you can have a look at a comparison between this and your old hospital.

I think it's most important to birth where you feel you will be most comfortable x

@Emy289 Thank you for your reply, very useful! I’d say St Mary’s also has higher than average amounts of c-sections and inductions so about equal there!

Good to hear the medical professionals are nice, I found the midwife’s lovely at St Mary’s but the consultants had no bedside manners at all!! (Though I’m sure they were very good at their job.) So tricky to know what to do!
