28 weeks and baby measuring small

I went to my maternity unit yesterday as I'm on my third set of antibiotics for a wafer infection. The midwife measured me and said I'm measuring small and have to go for a scan this week (baby is below the third centile if that's right). My other two children were fairly big babies - one was over 8 pound and the other nearly 9. I'm so worried.

Sorry, that should say water infection.

I had this with my second. He was on the 5th percentile.

They just had me back every two weeks for scans and to make sure he was growing in between, which he was. He actually ended up weighing more than my first when we was born.

They admitted to me themselves it can be difficult to measure, depending how they are laying etc.

@Tryandtryagain02 did the midwife just measure your bump? That happened to me and I’d dropped 40 centiles since the last appointment and my bump had hardly grown, got sent for a scan and the baby weighed on the 50th centile so the measurement wasn’t very accurate for me! Try not to worry it’s good it’s been picked up xx

I've had a growth scan for baby measuring too big and then 2 weeks later dropping and measuring too small. Both turned out to be fine.

I dont think you can go by measurements done by the midwife measuring you're bump, so many things can affect it, including how much you've drank during the day and the position the baby is in when they measure you. Even growth scans and estimated weight can be very inaccurate.

Hope the scan gives you some reassurance but I would try not to worry until you have the scan and just take it at the minute as another chance to see your little one before they're here 😊

The fundal height measurement is notoriously inaccurate, my first measurement was off the charts huge! But at the growth scan, he was put at the 51st percentile.
I hope the extra scan is of comfort to you, and provides reassurance.
