Cervical ectropion at 8 weeks pregnant

Just looking for experiences - anyone else had this?

I started spotting last Friday, which was terrifying as I had an mc a few months ago. I had an internal exam and the doctor said I had an ectropion, which was probably causing the bleeding. They also booked me in for a scan yesterday just to double check on baby - all looked fine.

I’m so relieved but I didn’t really ask much about the ectropion, stupidly. The midwife did say that I may carry on spotting but I forgot to ask how long this might last… has anyone had it in the first trimester and then it resolves later on? Even though I know the cause, bleeding is just so stressful, especially after last time! Thanks everyone.

I've had issues with cervical ectropian for many many years, it had seemed to settle down a bit pre pregnancy but then I had a few episodes of spitting after sex in early pregnancy. Then last night (I'm now 17 weeks) has a quite large bleed after sex which was quite a shock. So for me it has yet to settle down I'm afraid. Got checked out today by my midwife and baby was all good (though didn't like being poked with the doppler and was swiping at it and moving out the way) but the bleeding stops almost as quick as it starts. Like a lot of these things it is actually more common than people realise. I hope it settles for you soon!

Spotting not spitting 🤦🏻‍♀️ also aware there are many other spelling mistakes, I'm blaming my broken phone screen for me not being able to see them before I posted my reply.

I had one of these, I know I still have it as it was there on my smear a couple of months ago.
I bled (spotting) from 8 weeks, roughly every two weeks until it suddenly stopped at about 30 weeks and didn't happen again, so strange !!
I'm expecting it to happen again this time...
not just the fact every time it happened I shit myself with fear I had to go to the hospital each time to get it checked out as I couldn't leave it, all I would do is worry it was something more happening otherwise

@JD90 Ha ha! I knew what you meant 😂
So sorry you’re still suffering with it! I’d never even heard of it but the doctor who checked me over said it was very common, especially in pregnancy. I think everyone just assumes the worst when they start bleeding - I certainly did. Thanks for sharing 😊

@nowayhomer Yes I can totally understand your worry. The people at the early pregnancy unit basically said ‘Don’t come back unless the bleeding’s really bad’🙄It’s all just so stressful!

Hey yes I am currently 29 weeks pregnant and have a cervical ectropion had a big bleed at 6 weeks and 8 weeks and then nothing since x

Just updating this as I’ve stated to bleed again today but it’s red rather than brownish colour as it was the other week. Anyone had red bleeding with cervical ectropion? Feeling scared. Not done anything to bring it on, like sex.

Mine was usually always bright red. Didn't have any sex last pregnancy due to anxiety, and it still happened!!

glast · 28/06/2023 09:54

How far along are you ?

Missytizzy · 28/06/2023 09:57

@glast I’m 9+2 x

Epu told me the same thing, I had private scans to put my mind at ease. I know it's not always that simple though.

Missytizzy · 29/06/2023 13:41

@glast Hope you don’t mind me asking - how long did your bleeding last and how heavy was it?

I rang my local EPU and managed to get a scan for this morning - all was ok thankfully. But the bleeding seems a bit heavier today, not gushing but definitely not just when wiping. So annoying!
