Hello,
Iam expecting our first child and iam currently 25weeks pregnant.
I have a very well balanced diet and iam pretty active but scales seems to have gone crazy this last month 🥹
I started my pregnancy at 62kg and now iam 72kg - so in total I have gained 10kg 🫠🫠🫠
What about you ladies ???

I am 20w and gained 2lbs so far, but I'm about 35lbs overweight anyway.

Try not to panic about weight gain, especially as you said you eat a healthy diet. The majority of the weight you will put on is baby, placenta, enlarged uterus, extra blood (an additional 50% of your normal volume!) Amniotic fluid, more breastfeeding tissue, fluid retention, even more food weight (ie poop!) inside as your digestion is more sluggish.

LysHastighed · 20/06/2023 12:45

I gained 11 kg over the whole pregnancy and when I stepped on the scales at some point after the birth (in the first week) it was all gone, although baby was only 2.5 kg. You probably haven’t gained much that will persist.

riotlady · 20/06/2023 13:01

I’m 31 weeks and have gained 7lbs, mostly in the last few weeks- I had bad morning sickness so was losing to begin with. I had a lot to spare pre-pregnancy though!

PickledScrump · 20/06/2023 14:28

with my first I put on 3 stone, second I put on nothing at all, third I’m 22 weeks and put on 1.5lbs so far.

CityKity · 20/06/2023 16:46

Comparing your weight gain to others can be really unhelpful as you can see, depending on your starting BMI the values are completely different!
Not only that but different woman will gain and plateau at different weeks.

I personally found this research paper very helpful where the authors plot weight gain by starting BMI in over 200,000 women.
I’ll link the paper and graph below, but as you can see from figure 1b, if you started at a normal BMI a 10kg weight gain at 25 weeks has you just under the 84th percentile, so yes perhaps that is more that the median, but perfectly normal!

I'm in a very similar situation, I am 25 weeks and I weighed around 60kg pre-pregnancy.

I've gained similar to you, but this is my third baby and I always gained around 13-15kg in total but by the time baby is 3 months old most of it was gone and the rest went over the next six months. If it's causing you stress then stop weighing yourself and focus on enjoying the pregnancy, eating well and some gentle exercise :)

Gained 20kg. Lost 12kg the day Ds was born so 12kg was baby related (Ds was 4kg). The other 8kg came off within weeks, so I think it was just all essential weight

WideOpenSpaces · 20/06/2023 17:34

I'm 28 weeks and have put on 5.5kg so far.

Last pregnancy I'd already put on 12kg by now, and gained 25.5 in total!
Im determined not to put on lots more although if it happens it happens. I feel more in control this time as I have less of the 'I'm pregnant I can eat every single thing I want' mentality.

However.. my starting weight was 10kg heavier this time round...

Thank you everyone for the replies and good luck with your pregnancies 🤰🤰
I have no tress at all with the weight and body image - I adore my pregnancy belly literally 🥹 this is my first pregnancy and I wasnt sure about "normal weight gain" but of course everyone is so different and of course is all essential weight to support the baby and it's growth 💙💙🌈🌈🦋🦋

17 weeks and I have put on almost a stone. So depressing. Trying to lose a bit now.

LaVitesse2022 · 21/06/2023 22:41

@CityKity thanks for sharing the paper, really helpful to know averages based on BMI. Also first pregnancy and had no idea what's normal

GodspeedJune · 21/06/2023 23:50

I’m not pregnant anymore but put on 3 stone during pregnancy! I wish I hadn’t worried about it, a huge amount fell off in the first week after birth (over a stone!) and the rest went before DD was 6 months old.

Seriously, don’t bother trying to lose weight. I put on a stone in the first trimester and almost another one in the rest of the pregnancy and the whole lot was gone postpartum. You have so much more blood when you are pregnant even, and a whole new organ.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 22/06/2023 09:06

I went from 78 to 92 but now with five months of combo feeding (and not re taking up my evening wines and doing long pram walks every day!) I'm 70kg! If you are breastfeeding or expressing it will fall off x

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 22/06/2023 09:07

Ps it only took 4 weeks to get back to my pre pregnancy weight- so much of it is water and inflammation

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 22/06/2023 09:09

I was also diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 33 weeks and then had to cut sugar and white carbs out and I lost 2kg during the last trimester because of it.

Ged94 · 22/06/2023 11:24

40 weeks and 60lbs. I put on 5 stone my first pregnancy and lost 4 by 9 months without any huge effort so.hoping it's the same again!.

Started from a healthy weight

Ldougal92 · 22/06/2023 14:01

I put on 10kgs by about week 28 and I am now 37 weeks pregnant and put no more weight on, so I really wouldn't worry x

xogossipgirlxo · 22/06/2023 15:37

35+5, I gained 2 stones 😬I am expecting 2.5 stones by the end of pregnancy (not including water retention as it's hot and it's so easy to just swell awfully)

Oh please don't worry. I gained loads in first trimester, because I was really hungry. Didn't have any cravings, just hungry, like my body was trying to gain a bit of far for breastfeeding etc.

MantaKay · 24/06/2023 08:37

That's kind of you to say. 🌺

Pitstop1986 · 24/06/2023 13:46

Last pregnancy I gained loads in the first trimester, then nothing for the next couple of months, then I gained on average a pound per week from weeks 21/22ish until I went into labour. When I say I gained on average, some weeks I'd put on 3lb in one week then nothing for a couple of weeks, other weeks it was a pound per week steadily.

It all fell off pretty quickly after I gave birth without me trying, apart from about 3lb that stayed on, which in the grand scheme of things is nothing!
