Cervical length scan

Hey,

Anyone had a cervical length scan - internal? I'm having my first one tomorrow at 16+4, I'm worried about the pressure the scan will have on my cervix, or risk it may cause after.

Any experiences?

TIA

had appointment this morning, think it’s positive. No change in cervix still measuring 2.3 on shortest measure, no funnelling, back again in a week. Is this promising? Still worried haha dr said no need for the stitch as not lowered going to keep on pogesterone and scan weekly xx

I was told emergency stitch would be placed if I got down to 2.5cm, I thought myself that was quite low however when I researched that's when a lot of people have been taken in for stitch.
I would maybe ask them again to rethink this?
Or get a second opinion?
As long as the progesterone keeps your cervix stable at this length it would be fine but as baby gets heavier could get shorter? I would ask again about this x

Laurag9027 · 02/08/2023 11:33

Ahh how strange they told me if it went to 2mm they’ll do a stitch they seem to do have different opinions don’t they! Xxx

prayingformyrainbowbaby · 02/08/2023 11:38

Hi,

Great news that there is no change and good they are doing weekly checks. My consult said if I'm at 25mm or lower a stitch may be needed (last scan was 2.7-29mm), I'm 23 weeks and had a change between my last 2 scan and been on progesterone almost all the pregnancy - maybe that's why they mentioned stitch to me?

Did they give you any advice for do/don't? Xx

I know feeling more positive after the appointment, and just to take it easy 🤷‍♀️ baby girl looks active, I have the anatomy scan on Friday so will know even more then hopefully xxx

prayingformyrainbowbaby · 02/08/2023 11:54

Glad you got to see baby again, and fingers crossed progesterone is all that is needed.

My doctor said take it easy, nothing else was mentioned

Same to you! It’s scary but also nice to get to say baby quite regular only plus side haha xxx

Had me scan today, cervix is 19-21mm now so shorter again. No mention of a stitch or altering my meds, I had an extra test done 'fibronectin' swab, this came back low risk.

I was rushed off to see a sonographer due to a odd bit of 'tissue' next to my cervix - this was no concern. I have been made an appointment for 4 weeks but the midwife and consultant had gone out by time I had my extra/urgent scan. so I couldn't ask them any questions. I am waiting for a phone call back.

@prayingformyrainbowbaby How many weeks are you? I wouldn’t be happy at all if under 24 weeks and they aren’t giving a stitch with that length? Anything under 25mm, a stitch is required at my Trust?

I understand how worrying it all is. Mine’s 2.6mm with funnelling at 21 weeks. I’m feeling a lot of pressure down there. I have a rescan on Friday at 22 weeks and can’t stop worrying. I’ve been put on progesterone but only 200mg.

Hey ladies. Sorry to jump on your post. I have my first cervical length scan in a few days following premature baby with DS1. Have you had any symptoms? I’ve had lots of pressure and an increase of discharge and I’m worried this is to do with my cervix. I’m only 16 weeks but waiting for my appointment feels like years rather than days away.

prayingformyrainbowbaby · 07/08/2023 14:52

@VillageFete I'm 23+4weeks. Apparently the extra swab test for the Fibres gives a more accurate results instead of just measuring alone.

I've had an appointment booked for me via the badger app for 4 weeks, but I don't know what it's for? Still waiting on the call from the midwife/doctor to confirm if anything needs changing or a stitch, but not sure if I'm too close to 24week mark? Xx

I have no symptoms, I have a lot of discharge but I've been on progesterone since pregnant. I also have bad griddle pain but not period pain.

Hope your scan is ok xx

@Nellynoo182 I have loads of pressure down below, but nothing OTT with discharge - although I imagine I will now because of the vaginal progesterone they’ve put me on. Still can’t understand why only 200mg!
Not sure if the pressure is because of my cervix, but i’m worried it is. It even feels uncomfortable when I sit down. I hate the worry!

@prayingformyrainbowbaby They swabbed me at my appt last week but I can’t remember what for! I thought it was for thrush as I had a suspected UTI, which turns out it wasn’t a UTI, so why all this bloody pressure down below?!
They can get you in for a stitch tomorrow if need be, my friend got one there and then after her scan last year.

I’m trying to be as calm as I can but it says funnelling in my notes and Dr Google doesn’t seem to think any good can come of funnelling.

Definitely update us when they call @prayingformyrainbowbaby

Sorry to hear cervix has gone down again :(
I am so surprised no mention of stitch, My consultant said the nice guidance or something is stitch at 2.5 ? I would honestly check this with them. And also can they not see you sooner than 4 weeks?
Just to give you another measurement so you know what is going on.
Also check at what length they will do a stitch.
I would ask to be seen weekly now if quite low.

I have my next length check tomorrow- I am so scared !! X

I remember when I used them vaginally they played havoc down below!
I thought I had thrush then thought a uti no one new what was going on and I was left with so much irritation and got so worried about irritating the cervix.
I switched to rectally and no issues now x

Nellynoo182 · 07/08/2023 19:57

Thank you for sharing your experiences, fingers crossed we all make it as far a long as possible. I am worried I will need a stitch but I have heard so many positive stories about them so it will also be a bit of a relief if so!

94kj · 30/12/2023 16:10

@Nellynoo182 hi, can I ask how you got/are getting on? I am currently 22+4 and have the same symptoms as you - low pressure and lots of discharge and am worried!

Nellynoo182 · 30/12/2023 17:58

Yes of course! @94kj i am currently 37+1 and doing everything I can to try and get baby out naturally to avoid an induction next week.

I had a bit of a crazy pregnancy in the end which was mostly because of rubbish hospital. I was told at my first cervical scan my cervix was 3cm at 17 weeks, scanned again at 19 weeks and it had gone to over 6cm and they admitted one of the scans were likely wrong. Then given another scan 4 weeks later and cervix was still at a safe length (about 4cm) so no intervention needed.

I ended up going to triage as constantly had discharge and pressure and convinced I was going to go early again and ended up being an infection. I’ve had 4 infections in this pregnancy that have needed antibiotics and also 2 separate occasions of thrush needing the pessary. Every time my symptoms were pressure and discharge so hopefully it is just that ! I would recommend the boots BV and thrush 7 day pessaries they normally cleared up any discharge within a couple of days for me as I was trying to avoid more antibiotics. Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly! Xx

94kj · 30/12/2023 18:38

@Nellynoo182 so great to hear you got to 37 weeks! Sorry about all the other problems, had a test for infections yesterday so will wait and see if I have anything! Planning to contact my midwife next week to see if they will arrange a scan of my cervix, if not I'm going to book a private one for peace of mind. Thanks for answering x
