Doppler question, 11 weeks. When could I HEAR the heartbeat

Ok so dopplers....I know ok.

Background, history of loss and currently 11 weeks pregnant and have started bleeding.
Heavy enough to be comparable to a period.

Decided to pull out my old Doppler and have a listen and I can SEE a heartbeat showing at around 140 beats per minute but not HEAR it.
Whereas I can see and hear a slower beat of around 70-80 beats per minute down low on either side above my pelvis which I am assuming is the placenta?

Feel free to educate me please.

Anyway, not sure if the 140 beats that are showing on the screen are believable if I can't actually hear anything?

Excuse capital letter use, I'm not shouting, just trying to make it clear what I'm hearing vs what I'm seeing

In my experience with home Doppler the reading on the screen is almost never accurate. I would probably disregard it unless you’re also clearly hearing it. Also, if you’re still looking, it’ll be significantly lower than you might guess. I tend to find mine right above or pushed under my pubic bone at that gestational age. Hope everything is well for you.

70-80 is probably your own heart beat.

The readings on mine were never reliable. I would shut my eyes and could tell if it was my heart beat / the placenta or baby. Baby was so much faster.

What you hear on a doppler isn't actually a heart beat, it is fluid moving, if you are in the right place then it should be blood flowing through blood vessels.

But it can be other things if you are not trained eg your blood vessels, your bladder or parts of your digestive system.

Please, please be careful with home Doppler's 😣

Dopplers can sometimes ‘double up’ a heartbeat so you shouldn’t rely on what you see on the screen, it may be doubling the 70bpm you can hear. In the kindest possible way, please put down the Doppler, this is not what it is meant for and it will only cause you more anxiety. For bleeding at 11 weeks you need to contact your maternity unit to arrange a scan.

Best of luck 💐

Well, some trained midwives won't even do it at the 16 week appointment because it can be hard to find even then. So I would say 11 weeks is far too early.

If you're bleeding at 11 weeks please ditch the Doppler and go to EPU. Hope everything is ok.
