Told off my midwife...

well not really but..
I found out I was pregnant last November but left it until after Xmas do got to GP, they had to confirm the pregnancy (errm it is my 4th baby ) and then the midwife was away for 2 weeks.
So everything was delayed and only got my booking in done last Friday, I rang for a scan this morning and they want me in tommorrow, quite stunned at how fast they can move when they have to!

I seem to be the only one not panicking about the fact I am so far gone, I know I have missed the downs test and suchlike but I never have it done anyway.

Any thoughts

My friend did this. She was late having her dating scan - was about 13 weeks before she informed any medical pple - and it was her first! She said the same as you - they can really move it when they need to. Think they had a few harsh words for her too.

nailpolish · 21/02/2008 12:33

its not you are ill or anything! good on you for being so calm and collected

pity they couldnt move that fast for folks who need hip replacements or heart bypass...

fruitymum · 21/02/2008 12:39

When I went for dating scan I was 14 weeks! I thought I was probably 12 so it was a nice suprise - no telling offs .

whomovedmychocolate · 21/02/2008 18:00

Ah tell them to sod off, you've saved them time and money not booking earlier haven't you - less treatment time with midwives, and you're past all the niggly irritating bits of early pregnancy where you'd be rushing off to the EPU anyway! You'd think they'd be thankful!

NatalieJane · 21/02/2008 18:08

I did the same with DS2, I did get booked in at about 12 weeks IIRC but dating scan was at 14 weeks, then didn't see anyone except for 20 week scan till I was 24 weeks, I can't see the point unless there is something wrong.

Playingthewaitinggame · 21/02/2008 18:21

We don't even get a scan till 16 weeks down here so I can't see what the big deal is to be honest. If you had problems then you would have gone earlier, as you haven't I can't see any problems.

crokky · 21/02/2008 18:25

I can't see the problem. As for missing the window for the Downs test, well, it is only an optional test anyway!

Alishanty · 21/02/2008 20:55

I can't see a problem either. I couldn't get booked in until 16 wks because we moved so I had to register with a new dr and wait for my mw appointment to come through. I was offered a dating scan in my old area but couldn't make it due to the move. The area I have moved to don't do dating scans and I have been told I may have to wait until 23 weeks as they are really busy. I didn't get told off because it wasn't my fault. I'm not worried though as it's my second and my first pg went ok.

micegg · 21/02/2008 21:13

I'd say its up to you when you tell HP you are pregnant and what tests you decide to have. They have no place in 'telling you off' and if they do tell them to shove off

charlotte121 · 21/02/2008 23:11

at the end of the day ur an experianced mummy, u've already been through 3 pg so whats the problem!!! and what right do they have to tell you off! sounds like your doing what is best to me, ur relaxed and happy about the pg so i wouldnt worry
