Hi, accidental pregnancy - DS was 16 months old when we concieved

will this impact my pregnancy/baby/birth? I’m nervous as I just read somewhere you need to wait 18months plus to avoid scar rupture I’m terrified now

someone even said I’d have to deliver early???

I got pregnant with my second after an elective when no 1 was 22 months. It was fine.

Talk to your obstetricial or midwife about it.

I got pregnant 13 months after have an emergency cs with my first. I had a VBAC with the second. All was fine although I wish I had had an elective CS with my second. I think that the advice about waiting is more relevant to the old style vertical cut CS.

It's not an unusual gap, you could go for vbac if you want to

DazeOff · 08/06/2023 21:44

I got organs 1 year after a CS. I was fine although it was suggested I have a ELCS for my second. First was an emergency CS

Beehavewillyou · 08/06/2023 21:46

I got pregnant 14 months after my first emergency c section. Second was an elective, all was absolutely fine. Second baby was huge too!

PippinStar · 08/06/2023 21:48

There’s an 18-month age gap between my two C-section babies. My obstetrician wasn’t at all surprised or worried. It’s pretty common.

WithOneLook · 08/06/2023 21:50

If the c section was straightforward from a surgical perspective and you didn't suffer any complications/infections then it will be fine. In assisted conception (IVF etc) they recommend a minimum of 12 months between delivery and next conception to avoid issues (and most clinics will only ignore this recommendation in exceptional cases)

I had an EMCS and my doctor advised me to wait a year before conceiving again. I got pregnant with my daughter two weeks after my son's first birthday and had an uncomplicated VBAC 21 months after my C-section.

The risk of scar rupture is very low and with 16 months between pregnancies your scar has had time to heal.

My MIL had an EMCS in the 1980s with a vertical incision and got pregnant again 4 months later. (And had a VBAC!)

I'm just starting treatment at a fertility clinic for my second, after a section for my first. They wanted 9 months between birth and conception as the aim was to not deliver before 18 months, rather than wait to concieve until 18 months. She's 21 months now but they'd have had no concerns with an earlier attempt to concieve so please try not to worry!

16 month age gap between my two (so pregnant 6-7 months after EMCS). I tried for VBAC (which was my preference) but baby wasn’t compliant, and due to the limited time gap, induction/further assistance wasn’t recommended so had a second section. It was fine.

Janedoelondon · 08/06/2023 22:14

I had a c-section last august and recently asked my gynaecologist how long I should wait before trying for number 2, as guidance online can vary.

He said anything over 6 months is absolutely fine and not to worry.

I knew that didn't sound right!! DC1 was 13 months when I got pregnant!!!

Ok thank you all so much I’ve went into a blind panic!! And I don’t see a midwife for a few weeks so it’s been on my mind

I had a section in January and am nearly 14 weeks pregnant, due in December so 11 months between them. I will be having another section.
no one is particularly worried, I meet the consultant at the end of the month to discuss whether I might need extra care but MW suggested they might section a week or two early and maybe a few extra scans. All very calm…
