Early 6w scan.. measuring much smaller. Due to long cycle?

Hello,

I had an early scan today at what I thought was 6w (due to my lmp). An over the tummy & a transvaginal scan resulted in only a tiny 3mm fetal pole & a sac being seen so I’ve been booked in for another scan on the 16th.

The first day of my lmp was 19/20th of April but that cycle was 54/55 days, incredibly long compared to my usual 28-30 something day cycle. Could this be the reason why I’m earlier than I thought I was or is it not looking good for me?

I had a missed mc a few years ago so I’m trying not to get my hopes up but I’m also trying to look at the facts as to why I could be measuring so small at this point and maybe it is something as simple as my long cycle. I unfortunately don’t have the day I ovulated but I really wish I did now!

Any similar personal experiences or info would be massively appreciated! Thank you 🥰

It could be either really. Do you know when you got your positive test? 6weeks is early especially without knowing if you are 6 weeks.

I’ve had both a mmc and a slightly long cycle successful pregnancy.

With the mmc I didn’t actively track ovulation but I used cm and my positive test (and not having sex since the cm either) to be fairly sure of my dates. So in the 9 week private scan I knew it was bad news.

With the long cycle I was tracking ovulation. I say long cycle but it’s nothing compared to your 50+ days. I usually ovulate on day 19 (31/32 day cycle) and the cycle I conceived I ovulated 5 days later on day 24. So I didn’t use my actual lmp on an early 9 week scan. I estimated my lmp based on my ovulation. Otherwise it would have been 10 days behind the typical lmp date. Even knowing my ovulation date the private scan still put it 3 days behind which caused anxiety. By the time I had the nhs dating scan at 13+3 (again based on my ovulation/estimated lmp not actual) they actually put it two days ahead at 13+5.

Thank you for the reply @Blue2020! I got a faint positive on the 18th May, the day my period was due and I have been testing everyday (just using up very cheap tests that I already have) and the line has been getting darker everyday and they’re now all “dye stealers” so I’m trying to take that as a positive sign. I know dye stealers really aren’t that big of a deal scientifically but atleast the lines aren’t getting lighter.

I really wish I knew what day I ovulated so I could work it out better myself but for now I’ll just have to keep positive over the next two weeks and hope for the best.

Thanks again for the reply, I’ll keep this updated 🥰

Hello @Blue2020, just thought I’d update. My second early scan got moved forward to today and I’m now measuring 6w 6d and saw the heartbeat. I’m absolutely over the moon!

Wishing you all the best 🥰
