Advice for dealing with early pregnancy advice

I’m 5+3 weeks pregnant (based on LMP). Having some symptoms so far like fatigue, sore boobs. Not much nausea or anything yet.

This is my first pregnancy and I feel so anxious that something will go wrong. My 12 week scan feels like forever away. I plan to have a private scan between 7-8 weeks, but even that feels like ages away.

I’m trying to stop testing now as I’ve had some dye stealers but it’s hard to stop as I want the reassurance.

Does anyone have any advice?? What helped you with the anxiety?

Sorry title should say ‘early pregnancy anxiety’!! 🤦🏻‍♀️

@Tempeliz for me my anxiety was at its worse around 5 weeks. For some reason once I hit 6 weeks I really calmed down.

Have you done a clear blue weeks indicator? Getting 3 weeks on that made me feel better everything was heading in the right direction.

I also found this reassuring: https://datayze.com/miscarriage-chart

What you’re feeling is totally normal and I promise it gets better.

Miscarriage Probability Chart

Displays the overall probability of miscarriage - or, conversely, the probability of not miscarrying - based on pregnancy length by day and maternal history.

Thanks for your reply 💗

I have taken a clear blue test 2 days ago which said 2-3 weeks. I ovulate late in my cycle so I think I was around 17dpo that day which would make that result spot on if I understand it correctly??

I plan to take another at the weekend when I will be 23dpo and hopefully will get my 3+

@Tempeliz that sounds like a plan, I purposely waited until I was nearer 6weeks so that the 3 weeks would be there.

Just remember the odds of everything going well are in your favour ❤️.

I would personally advice against any more pregnancy tests, as they can be so inaccurate with number of weeks pregnant they show and can just cause more anxiety. So many threads on here are women agonising over Clearblue results and what they could mean.
It’s tough waiting for your scan, but try to distract yourself as much as you can. Easier said than done, but try to accept that a lot is out of your control. Focus on what you can control: eat well, keep active, avoid your phone at night to get a good night’s sleep.

I am also 5+3 today with the exact same symptoms and really struggling with anxiety. This is my second pregnancy after having a loss in April at 5+6 weeks so I can feel my anxiety ramping up this week. I have been testing daily and had some really good dye stealers recently and this has made me feel better, as well at getting my 3+ on clearblue.

I have no advice really, I have been trying to keep busy with work, and started watching a series on iPlayer to keep my mind occupied when not working, and to try and stop the compulsive googling.

Congratulations and good luck with your pregnancy.🥰

I would stop the test, and personally I wouldn’t have a private scan - I’ve heard so many horror stories about them. Focus on what you can control - eating well, exercise, fresh air, sleep. What happens Will happen, you can’t affect it.

This in spades

It's hard (I've just tested positive after 2 /2 miscarriages and it's the advice I'm trying to follow for myself).

Worrying will not change the outcome.

oliveandwell · 30/05/2023 13:55

No more testing, especially not the weeks clearblue! They are designed to make you loopy.

I wouldn't even have the private scan, it will probably date you 2 weeks earlier than you have in your head and cause you massive anxiety for no reason at all.

Hold tight until 12 weeks. You'll have your booking app before then which will make everything more real as well.

Book in lots of nice things to do, eat well, sleep well, research some good prenatal supplements. And have faith!

I would definitely stop testing. Once I passed 6 weeks my tests started getting lighter which obviously caused stress. Everything was fine though, currently 19 weeks. Avoid the weeks indicator, so many people never get 3+ even though their pregnancies go on to be totally fine.

I booked an early scan at 8 weeks as you can see the heartbeat by then so that was great and I’d really recommend. Wouldn’t do one earlier though just incase dates are off.

Hello @Tempeliz I'm exactly where you are! Almost the same re: timing (I'm 4+6), and it's my first too. I'm sorry you're feeling so anxious. I'm very much there with you!

I had what I think was a dye stealer today but then went mad googling images of pregnancy tests and realised it isn't going to change anything.

My brother is an experienced GP and I ended up telling him sooner than I had hoped just so he could talk me down... His advice: tests are only accurate in that they can tell you if you're pregnant (or have been very recently), some are more sensitive than others and yes the water you drink and when you take them will affect them - they're not scientific enough to measure if things are definitely progressing as they should or not! Advice was: stop obsessively googling and have a sandwich or take a nap.

@Mushroo your graph recommendation helped me massively, thank you for sharing this!

Others' advice to take care resonated with me too - thank you all for that.

@Tempeliz happy to chat if ever helpful to talk to someone in the same boat!

I am in a similar position to you @Misspotterscat in I suffered a miscarriage at the end of March at 5 weeks + 6 days which is what I am measuring today according to my app!! I’ve also suffered some spotting which has since stopped but my anxiety is through the roof too. Hoping it will all settle soon. Started a new series too and coming on here actually has helped me!
