Help - am I having a molar pregnancy?

Hi,

Sorry to be a pain but anxious about my scan tomorrow. I was admitted to hospital yesterday due to suspected hyperemsis and this was then confirmed. The doctor said from the start he wants to test for a molar pregnancy.

Fast forward 24 hours I am able to keep fluids down and eat with the aid of anti sickness. He told me to come back tomorrow for a scan. My HCG levels are 173056 for 9 weeks and 5 days. I've been anxious so I asked is it possible it's a molar and he said it could be? I know he can't say for sure but he's making me really anxious.

Are my HCG levels really high for where I'm at in my pregnancy? I know I won't have a definite answer till I have my scan. I had a private scan at just over 6 weeks and there was an embryo and a sack with a visible heartbeat. Should I be worried?

Google tells me 47k-190k is "normal". It's much easier said than done but try not to be anxious until you know something.

If it is a molar pregnancy then there wouldn’t have been a heart beat. Mine was picked up at the 12 week scan. Molar is just a bundle of cells, not an embryo.

Thanks just really nervous for the scan tomorrow :( I am an over thinker which doesn't help

@babyk2023 if you saw a baby with a heartbeat the chances of this being a molar pregnancy are very small. When I had one there was no discernible baby there at all, just a massive white out of grape like cysts. IT's immediately apparent that it's molar pregnancy I hope that helps a bit

So this is what my scan picture looked like at 6 weeks. Could this have turned into a molar? Sorry for being a pain. Chronic overthinker

I was admitted with hyperemesis at 8 weeks in my second pregnancy (didn't have HG during first pregnancy) and the EPAU ward sister insisted my hCG levels were high and it was a molar pregnancy. Was then scanned and sonographer saw some clotting, which she corroborated as a cystic mass on the back of what the sister had said.

Went back a week later and both said the same thing again, a registrar then came and told me to just go home and wait, and I would probably start to bleed. I just sensed something was off with their conclusions so I said I was going to stay and wait to see the consultan in charge. She came, looked at the images and told me the 'mass' had shrunk to half its original size and it was just a haematoma, plus my baby still had a heartbeat (as seen at 6 week private scan), and a molar would not just disappear like that.

Ward sister saw me out insisting my hCG levels were high and said her favourite part of her job was supporting women who were going through loss. I found that odd.

It wasn't a molar. My little girl is now 3.

I really hope it turns out positively for you.

I'm so sorry to hear of your awful experience. I'm glad it worked out for you in the end. They really don't help our anxiety with their 'could be this could be that'. Really anxious for tomorrow but reading stories like yours gives me some hope - so I really do appreciate the time you took out to share your experience. Thank you xx

Hi sorry to jump on this thread but I’m confused about my hcg results
Start - 984
Monday - 2026
Wed - 4621
Sat - 113000
Dr ilia scanned and said possible partial molar and 1 sac unknown if viable (5 weeks)
Following Monday 25/09/23 - 14767
Wed 27/9/23 - 20147

Why would it go up to 113,000 then down to 14767 then up to 20147 all approx 2 days apart. Anyone had similar?
