Hey, I had surgery on my jaw but I was only 4 weeks pregnant. I had a broken jaw, needed the surgery no choice really and being in hospital for said surgery is where I found out I was pregnant! He's now nearly 5 years old

Can they do a spinal for the operation? They have my mum a spinal when she broke her ankle and spinals are what you have during labour etc.

Oh that is difficult OP, how many weeks are you? I found it difficult enough getting around towards the end of my third trimester without throwing a broken ankle in to the mix.

I don't know anything about the risks of surgery while pregnant but I know that untreated fractures can be dangerous and lead to all kinds of complications. I'd speak with both your orthopaedic and maternity team and follow medical advice.

Hey - I had optic nerve surgery at 26 weeks pregnant, under general anaesthetic (not sure if you’ll be having this). My surgeon spoke on the phone to my obstetrician regarding any risks regarding GA, as the surgery was 1 hour max there wasn’t many risks to baby. A midwife checked him over before & after surgery and he had a really strong heartbeat post op too! Currently 31 weeks now and midwife has been happy with him at every appointment, heartbeat, growth, movements etc.

not sure if this is much help or reassurance but that’s my experience of surgery whilst pregnant 🙂
