Hi all,

I'm hoping to find some success stories regarding a second pregnancy with a resus negative blood type.

I've heard mixed things about it. My midwife thinks with anti D I should be ok with a second but there isn't a lot of information?

Thank you

I'm rhesus negative with 2 children who are both rhesus positive. No issues at all!

Libmama · 19/04/2023 20:46

I’m rhesus negative and have had 3 rhesus positive children. Anti D at 28 weeks with each one and then on day 3 I think after birth. No issues.

Hi all, wow I'm overwhelmed by all the responses thank you 🙏!!

I feel so much better reading all of your comments.. I felt extremely lonely and uncomfortable earlier after the appointment with the doctors!! Thank you ever so much, I am so so pleased to see so many success stories BearHalo!!

I didn't expect so many other women to have the same blood also, the midwife make out it's so rare.

I will definitely be more confident going into a second pregnancy now x

3 children all positive and I’m negative. No issues at all apart from the insult of an anti- d jab just as you are done with the whole giving birth shenanigans!

TheaBrandt · 19/04/2023 20:59

Honestly it’s something and nothing now. You have an injection after the birth that you don’t even notice or remember. I’m rhesus negative and both my dds are too funnily enough so it wasn’t an issue anyway.

They had to stop testing the fathers as were ahem finding too many that weren’t actually the fathers according to one midwife not sure how true that is!

Sorry I made a mistake. I didn't mean the positive birth company. You can get a test to see if the fetus is rhesus negative if you go private.

Crikeyalmighty · 19/04/2023 21:12

I've had 3 and am rhesus negative- just had the anti D injection post each birth- my boys were all fine

Monkeyrules · 19/04/2023 21:13

Also Dr Sara Wickham has written some good books on Anti D.

sleepyscientist · 19/04/2023 21:18

I'm o negative and other half is O positive, DS is O positive. We found out late in pregnancy, that I was pregnant so missed the 28 week anti-d l, bump was bashed multiple times and I didn't develop an antibody. Haven't had another one for other reasons, but blood group wouldn't prevent it.

ThreeLocusts · 19/04/2023 21:19

I'm rh negative and have had three healthy children.

I had bleeding at 4 months during the second pregnancy and had to go to a+e on a Saturday night to get the anti D shot (brrrr), and I hated getting the shot after birth - I found it surprisingly painful and they'd come along with it just when I wa done with the afterbirth and ready to get comfortable...

But overall it was a minor annoyance, especially considering the alternative. I had a rh- grand aunt who gave birth about five times and had two surviving children. Both girls, to her husband's great chagrin (f.in idiot). Imagine watching three of your babies vegetate and die after birth...

ThreeLocusts · 19/04/2023 21:24

PS all my kids are rh+, and I didn't mean to scare you by mentioning my aunt - she had the misfortune of giving birth in the 1940s, before anti D. Hooray to science

Liamgallaghersparka · 19/04/2023 21:30

I'm rhesus negative, I've had 4 children, I didn't need anti D with my second but did with 3rd and 4th, all pregnancies were fine x

hairdresserbreakup · 19/04/2023 21:39

Another resus negative here. Two kids - both in their teens now. Had anti-D after bleeding in both pregnancies and after birth.

PinkButtercups · 19/04/2023 21:51

My sister had this in her 3rd pregnancy and had the jabs and was all fine.

A lady in the same birth group as me also had this and had the jabs and all fine 😊.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 19/04/2023 22:27

I've had three children with no problem.
The third I did develop antibodies the last week of pregnancy but they just did extra blood tests

nopenotplaying · 20/04/2023 19:35

I'm rh neg. 5 babies and every single one is rh neg. I highly suspect my husband is rh neg too be we are not sure so they kept giving me the anti d. Wouldn't check his blood type! I actually have antibodies left over from the previous anti ds! You'll get a blood test at booking. Assuming you've had either a neg baby or anti d in your previous pregnancy there is nothing to worry about.

dementedpixie · 20/04/2023 19:36

We only found out our blood groups from donating blood

nopenotplaying · 20/04/2023 19:39

He can't donate due to a medication he's on so it's still a mystery. His own mum is rh neg too though.

dementedpixie · 20/04/2023 19:53

My mum and dad were both rh- and all the children (5) they had are also rh-

peanutbuttertoasty · 20/04/2023 19:59

I was totally fine. Absolutely healthy baby number 2

wibblewobbleball · 20/04/2023 20:00

I'm RhN and didn't have an issue. With my first I had anti D but with my second I had a blood test that determined baby was likely RhN too so I didn't need it.

Skybluepinky · 20/04/2023 20:07

My brother is a rhesus child, and my second child is rhesus child no issues now the injection is available, they tell u to get a jab after every child or miscarriage.
