Annual leave and Mat leave

Im just wondering if anyone knows about annual leave and Mat leave,
Can I use all my annual leave before I go on maternity leave? I was going to tag it on the before I went on to maternity leave to make it slightly longer before, does anyone know? My employer said they will look into it but just wondering if anyone else has had anything similar?

Your Mat leave has to start the day your baby is born, no later. I finished up and was due to take a weeks holiday but my baby was born that week so I had to start my Mat leave. You can tag all your holidays onto the end though so you get longer with baby.

Yes you can 😊 your last leave will start at the end of your annual leave.

For example my last day at work is 30th June but my "official" maternity leave isn't starting until 18th July as I'm taking two weeks of annual leave xx

So it wouldn't go pro rata then it would be the full holiday entitlement?x

I took all accrued leave just before my mat leave started (I started mat leave 4 weeks before my due date)and tagged on leave accrued whilst I was on mat leave at the end. What does your maternity policy say?

Sorry I should clarify I'm not due until 24 July. Like the PP said your mat leave needs to officially start when baby is born x

Surely the leave you have accrued up to the date of starting Mat Leave you can take before, but any that you accrue whilst on Mat Leave will have to be taken the other end? Check with your HR and check the Mat Policy...

This ^^ I also got caught out - planned 3 weeks AL with mat leave due to start on due date but baby was early and so it had to start on the day she was born. My employer let me roll it onto the next year though and i added it to the end of ML so gained an extra 7 weeks off on full pay.

It depends on you contract and maternity leave policy. I have to use all accrued leave prior to maternity leave (if possible, as PP mentioned you have to go in maternity leave once you give birth). Some policies encourage (force?) you to take it at the end of maternity leave. Others are more flexible.

I've tried looking In my Maternity policy but it doesn't state if I loose my holidays due to working half a year or not, so I'm waiting for my manager to get back to me currently on it all. X

As everyones employment is different, mine said I have to use my AL I've accrued to take before I go on ML. Then as mine will roll into the following year, I can use some of the 7 months worth of days I'll accrue on ML to be used at the end to extend it.

You get full holiday allowance while on leave.

You won't lose your annual leave. If you work for half a year, you'll get half a years worth of annual leave. Then while you are on Mat Leave, you'll continue to accrue more annual leave.
