Nub theory. Has sonographer given it away?

Unsure of whethwr the nub/ skull theory is showing a girl or boy? Had my 20 week scan and sonographer referred to baby as he. Now driving me crazy as we asked not to be told! :/

If you want it spoiled- lots of people on here will see the nub and know what it looks like.

I can see the nub and have an opinion but I don’t want to say and ruin it for you! Also nub isn’t 100% and isn’t always correct. Sonographer will always use he or she usually!! Just sounds better than it x

I can't tell if the nub is sandwiched between the feet or whether the top bit is the nub! ,🙈

@Sbd11 are you ok with my screenshotting your scan picture and re uploading circling where I see? 😊 but to me- that’s a boy nub!! Im pretty certain I’m also having a little boy haha, we’ll find out soon but in the scan room I could see a boy nub!!!! But I’ve read lots of posts before on nubs being wrong if the angle is slightly wrong too! Xx

Uploaded! One circling the nub at the end, and also one circling nub and outlining the spin😊 so they usually say - if the nub is pointing 30 degrees up or more to the spine, it’s boy!! (Top of the nub- which is the tip)

If you just pop on your Google searches “was the nub theory right for you” lots of posts willl come up from mumsnet and net mums, or sometimes search “was the nub theory correct mumsnet” then it’ll bring up allll mumsnet ones you can browse!!

Did you have a preference for the sex? Or just annoyed that they may have slipped up! It must feel so frustrating - but I’ve seen lots of “stacked” typical boy nubs that have turned out to be girls!! Again - Google stacked girls nubs and you’ll see! X

Thank you! No no preference just was baffled when the sonographer said he as I thought maybe he had slipped up! Will check out more examples but I guess I'll find out when baby comes! X

It’s such a shame when you wanted a surprise, but hey! You may just stilll 🤭 I do think regardless of sex, lots of sonographers say he or she!! And usually say he more 😅 even all my friends having been calling bump he and we have no idea hahaha!!

My best friend is a sonographer (she didn't do my scans) and i showed her my 12 week scan pic and asked her opinion / guess and she said from nub theory it would be a girl. 20 week scan came and we are deff having a boy. Aparently all sonographers say nub theory doesn't work and whilst some people might get it right.... its 50/50. The people who are right arent picking a 1 in 100 chance. Its like flipping a coin.

She has said though, that if she has spoken to me on a day when she is working she has accidentally refered to babies she is scanning as a boy (even when the parents know its a girl) just because a baby she KNOWS is a boy and is in her mind. And back when her sister was pregnant with a girl a few years ago she called babies girls.

I do the same with cats and dogs. Growing up we had a boy dog and a girl cat. Now as an adult for some reason I assume all dogs ive not met are boys and all random cats are girls.

I wouldn't read too much into what she said. I now have regular growth scans and even when I go in and refer to my baby as "him" to the sonographer they still refer to it as "them" throughout the scan. They are human and they have otehr things to be looking at and focusing on during the scan

@KoalaMumma love that!!! Such a good way of explaining it. 50/50 is such a high chance you’ll get it right that that’s how these “nub tech” places make so much money lol.

I also refer to dogs and cats in the same way!!! All dogs are boys, all cats are girls. I’m 29 and that’s how my brain still works 😂😂

Yes that’s a boy nub. When’s iv been for scans they refer to baby as just simply baby iv seen so many people posting on here saying the scanning lady said he or she and it’s has rhen worried as they didn’t want to know what happened to just saying baby

I posted a similar post after my 20 weeks scan where the sonographer referred to “her Femur” when doing the measurements. Fast forward to this week 37 weeks and I have just welcomed a gorgeous boy into the world. X

It's unlikely that the sonographer slipped up. I'm a midwife so regularly speak to sonographers and the majority say they tend to just use "he" as a default.
