Hi All, 5w+4 today, 2 days ago i started to experience heart palpitations, they aren't sore just noticeable, i get them sporadically throughout the day, wondering is this a concern? calling EPU this morning but no answer on phone so far, is it EPU I should be calling with queries like this anyway? or are these a known symptom?

I would call your GP

I get heart palpitations, well more like skipped beats due to hormonal changes, so could be that.

Thanks, I called GP and they've asked me to come in, so I'm sat here now waiting. Hoping it's nothing serious.

Hope you’re ok op! I had this throughout pregnancy but I put it down to anxiety because I had it my first too. Never actually mentioned it to anyone because my actually heart rate was ok!

Doctor checked me out, she could feel them happening on my pulse, they are called "ectopic beats" scary name for anything during pregnancy!

She said they usually aren't sinister and while not a normal part of pregnancy it could be because my body is flooding with hormones, she said shouldn't worry if i have no pain and they aren't happening consistently for like 30 mins in a row and if that happens to go to a&e straight away.

I have to go back on monday for an ECG and blood to be on the safe side but she put my mind at ease for the moment.

@38andtrying That sounds positive and also like what I get, so I’ll self diagnose through you 😅 Let me know how the ecg turns out, I might book in for one 🤣

I get these when not pregnant but more so when pregnant. They can be caused by anxiety, dehydration, hormones. Lots of things can cause them, they’re very common. They’re nothing to worry about. If you get chest pains or tightness, struggle to breathe or anything else that concerns you obviously go to a+e

iloveburmese3 · 16/03/2023 19:20

I had them but as soon as started taking iron tablets it went away!

Carrotpuffs · 17/03/2023 13:49

My midwife said they were completely normal so I'd try not to worry X

38andtrying · 17/03/2023 16:24

@Carrotpuffs I'm glad to know this, uncomfortable but normal I can handle, I'm hoping it's a good sign that pregnancy is progressing,I had a mmc few months ago and I'm looking as many symptoms no matter how unpleasant as possible lol
