Hi all
I'm 32 weeks pregnant with my 2nd daughter , with my 1st daughter I had a hospital birth (13 years ago) and only wanted to use gas and air but it made me really sick so ended up having an epidural. This time round Im having a home birth with a birthing pool but I'm a bit worried I'm going to be sick again with the gas and air and will have no other pain relief! Anyone else been sick with gas and air but managed with it for subsequent pregnancies?

No - I hated the sickness and woo feeling of g&a with my first in hospital, so I never wanted it again! I know this is not exactly what you're asking, but is it possible you would manage without if your environment is comfortable? My second and third births were at home with an inflatable pool, and I was able to do without g&a both times as I was so much more relaxed than in hospital (and also less scared as birth wasn't unknown). The water was great, and an inflatable pool is much more comfortable than hard fixed ones. I practiced breathing exercises beforehand, and asked back massages during contractions. It was hard hard work and painful at times, but I felt a lot more confident than the first time when I was dizzy and sick from the gas, and had two much better experiences.

I think I would manage without , I will just have to if the gas and air makes me sick again! I have an inflatable pool and will definitely be getting back massages as well 😀 I'm looking forward to this labour just a little worried about the pain but your response has made me less worried, thank you!

I only had gas and air last time but because it made me sick they also gave me an anti sickness jab which worked wonders.

With my first I couldn’t get the hang of gas and air and I couldn’t have an epidural. It was painful but I managed ok.

@Yourteaisgettingcold was that a home birth you got an anti sickness jag?

I used a TENS machine which I found really helped
