Second trimester good times or missed miscarriage?

Hi everyone. I’m 11 weeks and 3 days. We had a scan at 8 weeks which was all good, NIPT at 10 weeks which has come back all good and we will have an early anatomy scan at 13 weeks.

I’m just getting a bit panicky reading about missed miscarriages… I sort of thought all I had to worry about was if I started bleeding but now it seems like you can miscarry even without any signs at all? Reading horror stories of people going to their 12 week scan and finding the baby has died…

The reason I’m worried is that I’ve felt sick, hazy and extremely fatigued from week 6 onwards and then basically on the day of week 11 three days ago I felt a lot better. Much clearer minded, tired but not beyond what I can function with and much less sick/more interested in food again.

I was happy because I assumed that was my body adjusting to the hormones for second trimester. But now I’m scared the baby has died.

I guess my question is has anyone experienced loss of symptoms at 11 weeks and it’s all been fine? It’s killing me not getting to know for another 1.5 weeks.

Your placenta is beginning to take over now and so your symptoms are dying down. I know it's a worry. I've never experienced a missed miscarriage, but I did worry about it. My symptoms died down but all was well. I think everything will all be great at your scan xx

@GoT1904 thank you for sharing your thoughts. I do have high levels of anxiety even in my own life so now that I’m worrying for two it’s hard not to see the worst coming true.

Also we told my mum about the baby and some other key people when the NIPT came through on Thursday so I think I feel that guilty feeling of maybe I’ve told people too soon (because it isn’t quite 12 weeks and we haven’t had that second scan yet).

I’ve been sooo happy the past couple of days feeling like everything is ok and now it’s doom and gloom again. Pregnancy is quite the emotional roller coaster. But I guess motherhood is too so maybe it’s just preparing you!

Congratulations on your pregnancy and I am sure everything is fine, between the 11-12 week mark is when my pregnancy symptoms with my first eased up, you're coming up to the second trimester which for a lot of women is a really weird time, a lot of the early 12 week symptoms start disappearing as your body gets more used to pregnancy but the bump isn't really there yet and movements haven't started, it can feel like you're not pregnant but your body is still working hard, you're just more used to it.
It's such a terrifying time, I remember worrying the whole 9 months but it's completely natural xx

After having a successful 8 week scan your chances of a missed miscarriage are much lower, so try not to worry! I had a missed miscarriage myself with my first pregnancy, found at an early scan and was told the most likely time for the baby to stop growing is between 6-8 weeks, but seeing a heartbeat at 8 makes that likelihood so much less. I’m 15 weeks pregnant now and my symptoms did start to ease a little at 10 weeks but they came back, I do think it’s to do with the placenta starting to work!

Thank you @LouLouLabby and @ChloeN. I do feel better hearing your thoughts knowing that you’ve had the experience of pregnancy further than I have (and also sadly for you @ChloeN a pregnancy loss - I’m glad your current pregnancy is going so well!)

It’s amazing how attached you get to this life in you and you just worry worry worry. I never thought I would miss feeling sick 24/7 😂

I have the same fears as you. I’ve had 2 early miscarriages in a row (not missed) and am now 12 weeks. I had a private scan at 9 weeks and everything looked good, measuring as expected with a very strong heartbeat but I’m also worried in case I’ve had a missed miscarriage. I do still have symptoms but not as severe (I was on tablets for nausea but it’s not bad enough for that now). My nhs dating scan is on Wednesday and I’m equally terrified and excited.

I’m sure everything is fine for both of us and I purposely waited until 9 weeks for the scan knowing the chances drop after 8 weeks and that a lot of mmc found at the 12 week scan were lost 6-8 weeks like @ChloeN says but I wanted to let you know you’re not alone with your feelings. Lots of people feel the same even though we all know the chances are everything is fine 💕

Thank you @allgoodthings84, it means a lot to know that others are having the same fears. My husband thinks I’m being irrational and everything is fine and to be honest he’s probably right but I can’t help these fears. So it’s nice to know that I’m not the only one.

Having read what you said about MMC chances dropping after 8 weeks I do feel better because I think the NIPT test probably wouldn’t have worked if she wasn’t still there and developing right when they took the bloods for that at the ten week mark. So I’m hoping!!!!

Wishing you all the best for your scan on Wednesday. Mine is exactly a week after yours ❤️
