Hello . I had a private oscar test for downs. The actual scan was fine however the bloods turned the risk into a high risk -well i was told 1 in 260 chance which i know could be worse. the lady was a bit like a robot and put the fear of god in me. they wanted me to have a cvs , which is refused but im down for having amnio test on the 25th feb. im in the middle as for my age i should be low risk and really dont know whaqt to do. i was wondering if any of you out there has had a amnio test?

I was in a similar position to you and after the initial shock and disbelief, I realised that for us, the biggest question was whether we could cope with a Downs baby. We decided we couldn't, so had the amnio. If I had known I would want to go ahead no matter what, I don't think I would have had it.

The test was nowhere near as bad as I had expected but the two week wait for results was hell (the 4 day simple test failed).

I am glad I had the test and sadly my poor little baby did have Downs, and we went ahead with a termination - a very difficult decision. However - I don't want to panic you - my risk factor was a massive one in four - far, far higher than yours, while the risk of miscarriage was 1in 100 - far lower.

I don't regret having the test as, hard as it was, I knew that our family would not be able to cope with a Downs baby.
