Had drinks before knowing I was pregnant

Hello everyone, I’ve been really anxious about the fact that I was drinking before I knew I was pregnant. I was on holiday for my birthday and was drinking nearly everyday. I found out about my pregnancy when I was about 4 or 5 weeks and now I am worried that it might have harmed my baby. I told the midwife and she said that it happens to a lot of expecting mothers and I shouldn’t worry. All the scans have been good so far. Anybody else had the same problem or any advice.

Don't worry. Happens to most of us. Babies are tougher than you think. It's only if you continue to heavy drink throughout your pregnancy that issues occur. You will be fine and so will your baby

I was told it doesn't matter much in the early weeks. Because your blood isnt connected to the baby yet? Im not sure anymore as it was a while ago. But it happened to me and baby was completely fine.

You're fine. You don't share a blood supply with baby until at least 8 weeks anyway.

Thank you for your comment! I didn't have a drink since I found out about my pregnancy and 21 weeks now. I won't be drinking throughout my pregnancy.

I was drinking 4 pints of cider a night the week before I found out as I was on holiday I am currently 26 weeks and all is well

Did this with my first she has two degrees now so I think she survived 😂

I vomited up loads of olives and Chardonnay on a tube platform (on top of normal daily/weekly drinking and partying leading up to that moment of glory where my friend had to convince me to NOT eat the dropped samosa off the ground. We were drunkedy drunk drunk. Ah the salad days!).
I had no idea I was pregnant!
I absolutely panicked when I found out. I was eaten up by worry.
But everything worked out perfectly well.
He’s about to turn 21 and is studying at The Bartlett School of Architecture! 😁
I haven’t had olives and wine since… or ANYTHING off a tube platform floor. 🤢

Everything will be absolutely ok, OP.
Congratulations!!

Same here. It was Christmas and New Year in my case. DC is absolutely fine. Now a teenager. Try not to worry.

Your midwife is right - it’s very common. Stressing about it won’t help, what’s done is done.

I think this happens to ALOT of women! I didn’t find out till about 5 weeks with my first and drank quite a lot in that time. She is now 2.5, very smart (in my opinion!), with no health concerns.

Try to stop worrying.
