Measuring behind at 8weeks pregnant/ small sac

This is my first pregnancy, I am 8w pregnant today based on lmp. I had an early scan at 6w4d simply because I was excited about my first pregnancy, however it didn't go as expected. At that point only a gs and ys were visible and measuring about 8-9days behind. The gs was only 7.8mm. The technician did not seem concerned and simply said my dates might be off, I do however have a regular 29day cycle, and we know the conception date as I was travelling that month, only had sex twice during my ov period, and once before. I went for a follow up scan today at 8w and we saw a fetus and a heartbeat measuring 7w and 141bpm, crl 9.4The concerning part was the very small gestational sac only 9.8mm.
They said I have to go for another scan in 7-10 days again. It feels like I'm counting the seconds. Wondering if it's worth getting my hcg levels checked, or simply wait for the scan. At least there's hope in waiting. I've had very mild nausea throughout the whole thing, which comes and goes.
Anyone else gone through something similar ? What were the outcomes? How did you cope with the waiting, the results. I'm finding it tough, particularly today.

At this point, unfortunately, it's a bit of a waiting game. A scan can only tell you the "now", it won't tell you if it has been developing previously or has stopped developing etc, which is pretty much why the NHS avoid early scans unless medically necessary. Sometimes they offer more worry than hope!

I had an ectopic pregnancy, which meant for any subsequent pregnancies, I needed an early scan to rule out any issues. When I went, they basically told me that they couldn't say the pregnancy was viable as there was no heartbeat... but dates are such a guessing game that it probably would be fine and was just developing a few days behind what we thought. She is now 16 months old, so it was all fine :)

In the meantime, throw yourself into work, hobbies and "normal life". Try not to worry about what is going on as you likely can't effect the outcome, so just keep swimming as they say :-)

Good luck - I hope it all works out!

I’m sorry you’re going through this. I hope everything is ok. Like previous poster said we can’t say if it will be ok it’s a waiting game but I really hope it’s all ok.

Conception is when the egg is fertilised so just after ovulation not when you have sex so it could have been that you ovulated later than the average 14dpo this cycle which would put you behind measurements based on LMP. I had a scan yesterday which measured exactly 9 weeks, my LMP was 9+3 yesterday but I know I ovulated 17dpo this cycle so it was bang on. LMP dates are based on ovulation at 14dpo. That’s why they date you again at 12 weeks when it’s more accurate.

We'll wait and see, I look for success stories online, but every case is slightly different, and there's so much out there it's hard to filter it all. What I find frustrating is the few close friends that know, who keep saying everything will be ok, and I shouldn't worry. But I need people to acknowledge that there's a chance that everything will not be ok. I'm also kicking myself for telling so many people early on, I just got very excited. At the same time I don't want to be too pessimistic myself. I do have hope. It is nice to see people responding, regardless of what they say or what happens, I am finding some comfort on here, so thank you.

@hanaluna I went for a private scan at 7+5 according to LMP for reassurance but only measured 6+5 with a heartbeat. It’s worried me ever since, but I’ve got my 12 week scan next week and I just think what will be will be. It’s my first baby too, so I’m desperately hoping everything is fine but if it isn’t, there isn’t a great deal we can do about it unfortunately. It’s also not uncommon for measurements to be out by when you’re so early on so I’d try not to panic too much.

@Cat1424 best of luck to you and your baby. ❤

Hey, could I have some updates on your situations please? I’m 7 weeks with a heart beat but large yolk and small sac, they didn’t seem positive when I had my early scan, now waiting 10 days for another scan. X
