Just found I am pregnant

After TTC for 16 months with no luck I finally had two positive tests today!

So crazy as I'd convinced myself this one would be negative like ALL the others. I took a test on Saturday morning and it was negative so I was essentially waiting for AF.

Another 3 days go by and she's still not here so I take a test and voila!

Anyway- my question is my flo app (if anyone uses that) says I am 5 weeks and 2 days with a due date around 18th Sept.

Oblong calculators say 4 weeks but with a due date of 24th sept.

The clear blue test says 1-2 weeks. Essentially, I have no idea!! Can someone please help me work this out?

The first day of my last period was 12th Dec and my average cycle length is 34 days if that helps anyone.

TIA

Congratulations!
Gestation is counted from the first day of your last period so your flo app is correct.

You’ll be considered five weeks ish as you’ll be counted from the first day of your last period until your dating scan - realistically if you had a negative on Saturday you’re probably closer to four weeks. Huge congratulations, really happy for you!

Mostwonderful · 17/01/2023 21:06

I had long cycles so used to add the typical “plus two weeks” from ovulation day. I work out your approximately 4 weeks 3 days based on that OP. But maybe a little less if you didn’t get a positive on Saturday. Was it an early test you used on Saturday?

Hatscats · 17/01/2023 21:25

They’ll use your period dates until you’ve had the 12 week dating scan - mine have all then moved back, one by 6 days, one by 9!

colourPink · 17/01/2023 21:28

@Mostwonderful yep I used a clear blue early detection test on Saturday and it was negative.

I want to book a private scan but they won't see me until 6 weeks (understandably). I just don't know when that it 🤣

The clearblue tests you have to add 2 weeks to really, they’re from conception date rather than last period date. Congratulations 😊

Mostwonderful · 17/01/2023 21:57

To be honest, I wouldn’t go for a six week scan anyway. There’s not much you can see and if you are out, you’ll not see a heartbeat anyway. If you can wait 3 weeks I’d recommend it, I know it’s hard though!

Also don’t keep doing clearblue and use them as a guide as with my first it didn’t change to 3+ (so 5 weeks until I was over 7 weeks!). She came at 37 weeks 8lb something and I knew my dates.

Congratulations and Hatscats is correct on how they will estimate your due date and it is an estimate. The likelihood of you having the baby on the date they give you is slim.

Dontsayfuckorbugger · 18/01/2023 03:32

Congratulations OP. Does the exact date really matter at this moment in time. It will all be confirmed when you have your scans. The important thing is to not worry, be kind on yourself, be healthy and enjoy every moment. Very happy for you

Thank you so much to everyone. I will try and push the private scan back a few weeks (I've not even phoned yet). Just wanted a rough idea of when to book it for.

It seems crazy that this huge life event happens and then you just have to wait weeks!

One last question: when did you tell family? We won't tell friends until after the first trimester but we're not sure about family!

Mostwonderful · 18/01/2023 07:20

With our first we told our and very close friends early on. (Best friends, just before the scan!) We told our parents the day of the scan, once we’d seen everything was well and there was a heartbeat. We were expecting to be 7 weeks but they said she was 7w 5days.

This was our first scan, you can see the baby and the egg, the black bit on the baby was the heart and you could see it beating along. This was July 2017 and now she’s in school.

@colourPink thats lovely news after so long ttc☺️☺️ I think tell family whenever you feel ready, I told my mum immediately after getting my first positive but haven’t told anyone else yet xx

Justbelieve25 · 18/01/2023 08:44

Telling people should be based on your comfort zone. I told both our parents and waited to tell everyone else. Just know that if you do tell people early and something happens you will have to tell the people that you disclosed being pregnant too. Talking from personal experience.

Nejnej2 · 18/01/2023 09:11

We were advised to hold off on a private scan until 6 weeks after the positive test - it means you can be confident there should be something to see, as even the earliest positive test won't be before 3 weeks gestation or so.
I'm really glad we did as I don't think I would have coped well with not seeing a heartbeat but not knowing if I was just earlier than expected.
As others have said, NHS will go off your last period date regardless of cycle length, as then due date will be adjusted according to your 12 week scan. My due date came forward 3 days!
We told parents and a few very close friends between 5 and 7 weeks - I reasoned that I'd tell all of them if I had a miscarriage and need the support. We then told people more widely after the 12 week scan, and posted on social media after the 20 week scan. There's no right or wrong though!

Congrats! I had a similar cycle length to you (no idea if it has changed because I have a baby). Midwife originally thought I was a week ahead, but my almost 12 week scan agreed with what I thought. I would just wait until the 12 week scan.

PinkPink1 · 04/10/2023 08:12

Oops noticed the date! Congrats!
