Saw my midwife today, she said I had a trace of glucose in my wee but didn’t seem overly concerned…

im slightly worried about chances of gestational diabetes has anyone experienced this?

How far along are you? I think they test for gestation diabetes between 24 and 28 weeks xxx

Oh wow not long then! 🙂 you could perhaps rings midwife triage number and mention your concerns? Xxx

Strawberriesandcreammm · 13/01/2023 23:43

Nope! Can’t come soon enough, can’t wait to see what baby looks like! I was thinking of doing so, I was wondering if possibly eating before hand can affect urine samples but then again this is the first time glucose has ever come up but I have been snacking on the chocolate abit this week where I normally don’t 🐷 xxx

If midwife was concerned, she would have done further investigation. They'd rather not take chances with babies, don't worry about it.

Strawberriesandcreammm · 13/01/2023 23:47

all she said was ‘have you had anything sugary today? If the reading was higher we’d have to do a Glucose test.’ But I briefly remembered before the appointment I did have some chocolate maybe two hours before I saw her!

Exactly. So that makes sense, the chocolate before seeing her. No need to worry.

Strawberriesandcreammm · 13/01/2023 23:51

It’s all been a little stressful this week with talk of induction etc I think everything’s making me anxious and then worrying about some sugar in my urine I was like oh no panic!

Normal to feel like that but you're nearly there now!

Thesonglastslonger · 14/01/2023 00:10

The midwife said that to me everytime I had a checkup, but I never really understood why.

Pregnancy was easy, childbirth ok, baby fine.

I wouldn’t worry.

Not very far behind you, I am 35 weeks. I have had glucose in my urine twice by now but absolutely normal GTT and pre and post food blood sugars!

Physiologically, the capacity of kidneys to retain glucose decreases in pregnancy and hence the effect. If your midwife/doctor is not concerned, it's quite ok to drop it out of your mind. But I can really understand your concern, I have been fretting over sugar levels every often.. so I avoid sugary and carb rich foods as much as I can!

You are in the last mile of the journey, relax as much as you can 😁 all the best!

LemonBounce · 14/01/2023 10:33

It gets to a point where they can't do anything about it anyway - you might be there if you are further along. Chocolate definitely skews the results too! I wouldn't worry you're nearly there and doing everything you need to
