Vitamin A in multivitamin

Hi all,

Will try to keep this short but guess I'm just looking for some reassurance.

I'm currently 12+2 weeks with my first and have been taking pregnacare max since I found out around 5 weeks ago.

However, due to nausea I've been getting a pretty bland diet so started taking a bassets multivitamin 7 days without realising it has vitamin A which I obviously shouldn't be taking!

Has anyone else accidentally done this and had a healthy pregnancy / baby?!

I know I'm probably just panicking but any advice/reassurance welcome! TIA x

What form is the vitamin A in the supplements?

There's retinol or beta carotene which we can make vitamin A from. I think we can't have too much beta carotene, the extra just gets peed out. Is it possible you're taking it in beta carotene form not retinol?

Congratulations! Not much help but I accidentally did the same for about 5 days near the start - I changed to an own brand pregnancy vit and now 23+1 with a kicking lad! All you can do now is stop taking them and unless something seems wrong I’d try not to panic - I’m sure the midwife could reassure you if you reach out? 🖤

@musicalgymball I've looked at the ingredients on the box and honestly can't see anymore details other than Vitamin A :(

@Stressyfab thank you!

Nothings felt different since I started taking them, but I'll definitely keep an eye and reach out to my midwives if anything changes..

It's just such an uncertain time and I don't really know what to expect/how I should be feeling

It’ll be a retinol based one as that’s what they use in supplements. I wouldn’t worry there will be the recommended daily amount in it if 800 and as long as you haven’t been eating lots of fortified vitamin A foods and animal sources of vitamin A it’s highly highly unlikely you’ll have caused any damage especially in 7 days. Mention it to your midwife to put your mind at rest though it’s always good to ask them anything like this but in mean time put it to the back of your mind.

Yes! Did this with my first until about 10 weeks. I was so careful otherwise. I was really mad at myself and felt so stupid. Cue a full pregnancy of worrying.

Anyway, she is now a very healthy, happy 2.5 year old. Although she has never slept through the night, so maybe the vitamin A is to blame 😂

Try not to worry x
