Bleeding at 6 wks should I get a scan?

So I conceived after an embryo transfer and currently 6+2 wks. Yesterday unfortunately I started bleeding first brown discharge just when wiping which turned into red and filled about 2 liners in the afternoon. (Sorry for too much info!) today I have spotting of brown/black but no further red. I phoned the EPU unit and they have given me a scan in a weeks time. I’m just really anxious and paranoid now and wondering if I should book an early scan or if this will make things worse… ie I won’t necessary get an answer

wondering if anyone has any insights that can help me decide what to do. My gut feeling is that this pregnancy is going to miscarry so I should just wait it out. My last transfer also ended in an early miscarriage at 5 wks so struggling at the moment x

So sorry to hear you’re going through this.

As you know your exact dates, a scan should be conclusive (because it should accurately reflect an embryo of correct gestational size/fetal pole/etc). However, my understanding is that the scan is only conclusive from about 7 weeks - prior to that they don’t always pick up a heartbeat and that could be because the pregnancy isn’t viable but could also just be because it’s so early on.

my clinic (ivf) scan at 6 weeks 5 days at the earliest as they believe that is when you should be able to see a fetal sac/pole and heartbeat if the pregnancy is viable.

sorry to not be of much use but I think you would be best waiting until approx 7 weeks and then you will at least have a definitive answer?

keeping everything crossed for you xxx

If it helps, I went for an early scan at 6 weeks - I thought I was 7 weeks but was a week behind. They managed to see a heart beat then.

I know it can be too early to see anything, which could also potentially cause you some heartache, even if everything is ok. Maybe book one in for a few days, when you are 6 1/2 weeks x

A scan at this stage, while not 100% sure of heartbeat, will at least rule out ectopic pregnancy, symptom of which can be bleeding despite a positive test x

Thanks for all the comments, really appreciate it. I ended up getting one as just wanted to be put out my misery and everything looks good and heartbeat there! It is measuring 2 days behind but the scanner did say it’s so small at the moment to just see how it is at 7 weeks since they grow so much!
