I’ve had bad nausea most days on and off for the last two weeks but I’ve only been sick once, does anyone else have this? I thought I’d need to be sick for it to be morning sickness? First baby so all brand new!

The only thing that seems to help me is apple juice! 🍎

Morning sickness is nausea and or vomiting. I had nausea throughout most of my first trimester but was never sick.

shard5 · 15/12/2022 18:13

Yup, 5 babies and each pregnancy was nausea filled but no sickness.
I lived on mints, mints in my car, mints in my bag, in my desk, under my pillow everywhere. They were the only thing that kept the nausea at bay.

Crunchingleaf · 15/12/2022 18:13

You don’t need to be sick at all for it to be morning sickness.
First pregnancy I got sick a couple of times.
Second pregnancy I was nauseous all day long and got sick multiple times a day during worst of it.
Third pregnancy got sick a few times but was nauseous from second I woke up to when I feel asleep at night.
Other women never feel nauseous or get sick. All completely normal.

I had HG which was predominantly nausea! It was horrendous. Like feeling horrifically carsick morning, noon and night. I couldn't eat and used to dry heave and gag constantly even though most days I was sick once or twice, if at all.

I had it really badly for the first 16 weeks of pregnancy #2, but I'm 21 weeks tomorrow and just down to gagging and dry heaving very early in the morning and right before I go to bed.

@shard5 I'm sucking on a spearmint boiled sweet right now 😭

shard5 · 15/12/2022 18:41

Every single pregnancy from around 4 weeks right until the end!
And I hated mints, never even liked chewing gum but they were the only thing that worked
My sil was the same! I only found out she was pregnant when my neice said something like, my mummy has those mints in the car too! And in her bedroom😂

Mumtobe2023 · 15/12/2022 19:04

Yup this was me! I'm 34 weeks now and even now I still get the odd occasion where I feel sick! But never actually go sick! The joys 🤣🙈

BCxx · 15/12/2022 19:47

this is baby #2 so I was settling in for a nice easy few weeks before the sickness hitting about 8 weeks like last time. I’m not even 5 weeks yet and the last few days I’ve had that extreme hunger (even not long after eating) where it’s like if I don’t eat I’m going to be sick! Haven’t actually been sick but have felt it a lot.. really dreading how bad this is going to get if this is 4 and a half weeks 😂😩

Nejnej2 · 15/12/2022 19:49

Had awful nausea in the first trimester, didn't vomit once! Needed antiemetics to help me function at one point

BertieBotts · 15/12/2022 20:01

I was only sick about five times in total over three pregnancies. Morning sickness was just constant nausea for me.

Journeywithme23 · 15/12/2022 23:01

I’ve not tried mints! I’ll stock up tomorrow 😂 saying that.. I have noticed peppermint tea helps sometimes too!

The nausea is really awful. I felt like I had a horrendous stonking hangover for 29 weeks. In fact I looked hungover until my bump showed at 20 weeks. I'm sure when I had to get off the bus to dry heave everyone thought I was hungover...!

@Journeywithme23 please tell me you wasn't like this the whole way through 😥currently 7w4 and have felt so nauseous for about 2 weeks I cannot work or leave my bed I just feel awful😥

Aww bless you! I really do feel for you it’s such a horrible feeling. Apple juice helped me a lot I must have drank gallons of it. Mints and ginger biscuits are supposed to help some people have you tried those?

Mine disappeared overnight but not until I hit 18 weeks but I know plenty of mums who it went away for a lot earlier than that so don’t let mine scare you!

Hang in there, you’re doing great & it’s all just a phase 🤍

@Journeywithme23 like you this is also my first ever pregnancy so the fear of miscarrying even though I never have is crippling me mentally then combined with this nausea is physically doing me over I am struggling A LOT and feel so guilty for doing so because this baby is much wanted and I think I should just deal with it and be happy but it's so hard. Hoping everything settles soon :(

Thankyou so much hunny!

I know it’s cliche to say but please try not to worry. Trust your body, trust the timing and trust that you’re doing great just by being the space for your body to grow! You’re basically amazing for just existing!

I had such similar worries and someone said to me it’s just the fear of what you don’t want, so try and switch your energy to what you do want from time to time to keep the positive thoughts in your conscious! It’ll help reduce the build up of anxiety that is already heightened at this stage! It’s also totally normal if you feel a bit lonely as it’s all new and scary and you can’t really tell everyone about it but you’ll be fine and you’ll get there! The days and weeks can feel like years but I found making a list of all the things you’d like to do before baby comes (for yourself) was helpful as I had trips and activities to focus on later in pregnancy.

Lots of nausea is a good sign as it means your hormones are strong and pumping around and your baby cells are growing and changing rapidly! I now have an almost 1 year old daughter who was the little bundle of cells causing the nausea on this thread.

Check out The positive birth company, hypnobirthing course, NCT, doula’s on instagram & peanut. All things I found helpful and a good support throughout pregnancy and postnatal!

@Journeywithme23
I had a scan a week ago today due to shoulder pain and epu wanted to rule out ectopic and we see a heartbeat! They was really happy and positive that all was looking as normal and was discharged which is what I'm hanging onto and we have another scan tomorrow that I've booked privately just to get extra peace of mind then we shall leave it for next 5 weeks until 12 week scan

I'm sure things are okay as my symptoms are getting stronger as the days go but all I've seemed to be reading is first pregnancy's ending in miscarriages which I'm finding so scary and triggering

I'm trying to be in the mindset of excited for scans to see baby instead of scared for bad news!

I run my own business so very lucky that I can spend these harder days literally just relaxing for myself instead of having to go to work!

Praying that I have a gorgeous newborn in my arms next march! I agree all we can do is hope all is well and our body's have got this!

Thankyou so much for your generous words, they've made me feel more at ease

That’s amazing news! Congrats on your teeny heartbeat!

My first pregnancy is currently asleep in the next room and her first birthday is next month. You’re only worried because you care so much and that’s normal, just let yourself relax a little for now knowing how healthy things are already!

I totally get it, I read lots I think lots of women do and it’s almost a curse as there is a lot of information and shared experiences available that it can become too much. (Especially on here!)

I think I thought I’d feel reassured by researching as I didn’t like feeling ‘unwell’ and the hormones make you a bit ‘wired’ without you even realising but just take it day by day with all the self love you can muster as you blooming well deserve it.

No problem at all. Feel free to message if you ever need!
