Positive fibronectin at (nearly) 29 weeks

I'm 28+5 and have been having period pains and bits of plug coming out for three days. I've been seen at my local hospital and my cervix is closed and I'm not contracting but I've had two positive fibronectin tests. They are transferring me to a hospital a couple of hours away with a neo natal unit and I'm just hoping labour doesn't start or can be stopped if it does.

Has anyone had this happen? Even if I was 32 weeks I'd worry less but not even being 29 yet I'm really worried.

Hope you've has steroids, to help mature the baby's lungs. Makes a significant difference to how much help they need with their breathing.

Yes they've done the first steroid injection

I haven’t been in your situation but just sending a hug and hope all will be ok for your and your baby.

Good to hear you've had the first injection. Really makes a difference. Glad to hear you're being moved to a hospital with a full NICU, not just a SCBU, as outcomes are better. They may also give you an infusion of magnesium, as it significantly reduces the chance of baby having any brain haemorrhage.

I didn’t need the fibronectin test as it was obvious my waters had gone at 30 weeks and I was contracting. Transferred to a hospital with a better NICU and now 9 days on I’m going home, still pregnant.
Feel free to PM me if you like.

Hopefully the obstetric team at the hospital you're going to can give you some advice about how likely a pre-term delivery is.
Thinking of you OP

Hi, I had a positive test also, I was just under 30 weeks. I stayed in hospital for a couple days and went home again. My waters went at 34+4 and I gave birth and 34+6. I had the steroid injection when my waters went and he was healthy when he was born. He was 5lb15 and went into the postnatal ward and not NICU. My daughter was born at 34+5 and needed to go into NICU for 2 weeks due to feeding issues. I hope this gives you some hope. Take it as easy as you can do and try not to stress too much (easier said than done, I know)
