Early scan?

Hello,
Just wondered if anyone recommends getting an early scan. I just found out I'm 4 weeks and my NHS midwife appointment isn't until 10 weeks and 1st scan until 12 weeks! Not sure how ill manage to wait 2 months to get the scan and find out if things are going well because every day that passes, I feel more and more attached to little peanut! Any advise would be hugely appreciated. Thank you! X Star

I had scans at 5 weeks and 7 weeks through the NHS due to bleeding and then had private NIPT at 10 weeks, followed by the NHS scan at 12 weeks. I then had my 20 week scan, and had more at 24, 28, 32, 34, 36, 38 weeks...I was bored of them by the end 😆but certainly in early pregnancy if you're anxious they can offer reassurance however, it's always good to keep in mind that anything can change at any point.

Hey girls, sorry to join this thread but can you see below and see if any of you have experienced this please with an early scan? Im so worried, looking for some similar instances and woman who have experienced the same as i have before i lose my mind.

i found out i was pregnant two weeks and 3 days ago, due to previous miscarriages and pain i was instantly put with the EPAU, i had my first scan a week ago today where only a sack could be slightly seen - so it was classed as inconclusive.

i then went back today with the hope of hearing a heartbeat… but nothing. My fetal pole is now measuring at 3.5mm and sack visible and is in the right place so we have ruled out ectopic, but the woman scanning me said it could mean the pregnancy is there but non viable but how would it have grown?

the nurse after my scan said she should not have said that to us because the pregnancy has progressed since the last scan - but it means my scan next week ( a whole week today) if theres no heartbeat they would class it as a missed miscarriage and now i am petrified and sick with worry.

is it normal to not see the heart beat at 6 weeks 3 days? Will i see it in a weeks time if everything is normal or could it still be hiding? It is going to kill me to lose this baby. I just want to know if anyone has had anything similar with a positive outcome.

they said i could just have been earlier on and its normal - but also said i could have already lost it due to the heartbeat not being visible. HELP.

@mm1998 Similar story with my last pregnancy but I don't have a happy ending I'm afraid :(

...

I'll definitely be having an early scan. I don't have time to waste and if I find out there's no heartbeat at eight weeks at least I won't lose another months worth of time thinking that I'm still pregnant when I'm not.

Due to a MMC in April I get an 8 week reassurance scan with my local EPU, then we'll be booking a private scan for 10 weeks and the have the NHS one at 12 weeks.

Thank you guys. Still doesn’t feel real. ❤️❤️

RandomCatGenerator · 26/11/2022 20:58

I had an early scan today, after miscarrying early in September. The relief when I saw the heartbeat was huge. Well worth £80 from my point of view.

littlepeanuthopes · 26/11/2022 22:03

Amazing @RandomCatGenerator ! Huge congratulations!! Do you mind me asking how many weeks you are x

Thanks @littlepeanuthopes. 5 weeks 2 days so very early - I thought I was more like 7 weeks.

This probably sounds really stupid but without a scan how do you know for sure you’re pregnant?

I worry about the tests not being right especially as I had a miscarriage.

Home test are now so accurate that GPS (in Scotland at least) don't even bother testing you. I was just told to call the midwife unit and book my appointments.

Sorry to gatecrash, but can anyone tell me how quick the EPU are at getting you in for a scan? I started spotting on Wednesday night and its just got heavier and heavier and am now passing clots and the back pain and cramps are pretty severe. 😔I'm planning to ring them 1st thing in the morning. They weren't too bothered when I last rang them on Thursday.

Very quick when I had spotting in my last pregnancy (a MMC). I think it was the next working day. We called Saturday and I'm pretty sure the scan was Monday.

Thanks @TheBirdintheCave

I found it depended at what stage. When I called with spotting at 8 weeks they just told me to monitor it so I paid for a private scan as just wanted to know what was going on. When I had spotting at 14 weeks, they booked me in for a scan 2 days later.

@littlepeanuthopes they couldn't see anything on the scan unfortunately. Its either ectopic or I've already passed the little bean Sad. Either way its not viable.

Thanks for the thoughts and I hope yours goes smoothly! Xx

TheBirdintheCave · 29/11/2022 12:31

@TerrifiedOfGivingBirthAgain Really sorry to hear that :( Look after yourself!

TerrifiedOfGivingBirthAgain · 29/11/2022 15:01

@TheBirdintheCave thanks. Its shit, it really is, but I've got the space and time to grieve, and hopefully try again in the new year. X

Oh no :( I'm so sorry.
Stay strong and try to look ahead - be positive. Like you said, there is always the next try.
I wish you all the best @TerrifiedOfGivingBirthAgain ❤️
