In my first pregnancy there was a lovely supportive thread for T1s so thought I’d see if there are any around this time around.

I’m 9.5 weeks and having a shit time already, especially with BGs.

Anyone else?

(This is a thread for pregnant women with T1. If you have gestational diabetes please make your own thread. It is a completely different situation.)

@TheSnugglyDuckling I also massively over treated a hypo yesterday with nearly a whole bag of fruit gummy sweets, I didn’t realise how low I was and I know we try not to do it but your body goes in to panic mode.

@Sallyh87 I have gone the other way and just want salty food and bread! Hope everything goes well on Tuesday morning 😊

Sallyh87 · 01/11/2022 13:10

Scan has happened and all fine, cute little heart beat etc. Very relieved.

We celebrated with MacDonalds breakfast which was amazing. It will be plenty of vegetables for dinner though!

How are you both feeling @TheSnugglyDuckling and @Ally1992 ?

Ally1992 · 02/11/2022 05:54

@Sallyh87 that’s great news 😊

I’m doing ok thank you. Still feeling nauseous and having loads of food aversions at the moment so literally just eating what I can stomach and will try to be healthier in the second trimester!

Ally1992 · 02/12/2022 14:14

How’s everyone doing? I had my 12 week scan Monday and everything was fine. I’ve since been very ill with a bug or flu and even though I’ve barely eaten my sugars have still been out of target. My diabetes nurse told I had to try and do better yesterday which turned me into a more emotional mess than I already was 😩

Sallyh87 · 10/04/2023 14:33

Hi @Ally1992 , sorry I missed your update and came back looking for this thread to see how everyone was doing.

I know how you feel, it’s really hard to keep in target and get it right! I find sickness just throws everything out. It’s not helpful to be told to ‘do better’ either! Obviously, we are all trying as hard as we can!

I am now 35 weeks and nearing the end. Booked in for c section at 37 + 5.

Hope everyone is doing well. And if there are any other T1 diabetics about be great to hear from you too 😀

Ally1992 · 21/04/2023 15:21

@Sallyh87 it got better in the second trimester and then a lot worse, I knew the insulin resistance would kick in at some point but was not expecting to inject the amounts I am right now!

I hope everything goes well with the c section, not long to go now 😄 I think I will be going for an induction at 37 weeks and I’m currently 33+2 so we’re almost there!

Mimi2022 · 12/05/2023 14:09

@Ally1992 did you have to attend hospital appointments with your obstetric team every 2 weeks to monitor baby’s growth? If so, when did this start? I am trying to understand how the appointments are structured for type 1s.

Ally1992 · 12/05/2023 15:46

@Mimi2022 yes it was every 2 weeks with an obstetrician and diabetes consultant in the room at the same time and my appointments started at 7 weeks. I had the normal 12 week and 20 week scan and then growth scans at 27, 32 and 36 weeks. The appointments every 2 weeks were to check blood pressure and urine, I had a couple of a1c blood tests as well and then they look at your blood sugar readings either from the Libre or Dexcom and advise if you need to make any adjustments etc. I don’t know if this is just my area but I also saw the normal community midwife team for all things baby and not related to diabetes for appointments as well 🙂

Mimi2022 · 12/05/2023 15:56

@Ally1992 thank you so much for your response. How is your pregnancy going?

Ally1992 · 12/05/2023 17:14

@Mimi2022 good thank you, I’m getting induced next week at 37 weeks so not long now, are you pregnant or ttc?

SRamsden21 · 16/05/2023 20:22

I’m so happy to have found this thread. Just found out I’m expecting! Flo app says 5 weeks! I had an awful week about 3 weeks ago where my sugars were rubbish…. Think this was first hormones.
im already scanning myself every hour checking my sugars! This will be a longggg 9 months of checking and correcting! But so nice to read you ladies are now nearing the end even with some ups and downs. Makes me feel less rubbish! X

Mimi2022 · 23/09/2023 18:53

@Ally1992 Hope your induction went well! How are you doing?
@Sallyh87 I hope you also had a positive birth experience.
how are you both feeling?

my insulin needs are now increasing and have just discovered that my 1 year dexcom funding has ended. I have to speak with the nurses on Monday but I hope it can be renewed for the rest of the pregnancy.

Ally1992 · 25/09/2023 01:06

@Mimi2022 the induction ended up lasting 4 days with forceps so not one of the most positive stories unfortunately. The recovery was quick however and he is 4 and a half month now!

The insulin resistance gets crazy, I went from a 1:20 to a 1:4 carb ratio, it drops back to normal straight away though.

My Dexcom funding ends next month then it’s back to the Libre, hopefully they will renew your Dexcom again 🤞
