Vaginal birth after 3rd degree tear?

Hi
i’m trying to decide whether to have a vaginal birth after having a 3rd degree tear with my first.
I can’t make a decision.
reasons for a vaginal birth (if all goes okay this is)…. More natural, get the first cuddles, recovery is quicker, may be a quicker labour the second time round, may help with breastfeeding

reasons for a c section… no vaginal tears, planned surgery so less painful, less fear of the unknown.

what do you think? Thank you all

Glad to hear that. I wanted a home birth with my last 2021 baby but couldn’t happen due to covid. I have had an emergency c section with my first baby so i know what its like and i don’t think i will go that route as long as things don’t get worse but i will see how i am as pregnancy progresses. Am due in September. Are u planning to do perineal massage, evening primrose oil or other things to reduce chance of tearing??

@spicytuna06

hello

I was the original poster.

the second vaginal birth was a success. I tore again but only a second degree tear so the midwife stitched me up. I had the epidural to help with the delivery and that was 100% the right thing for me. No pain felt at all.

Hey I followed this thread when I was making my decision and just got a notification about it so thought I’d add with second baby I went for vaginal delivery after 3b tear first time round. With no2 I had a home birth and 2nd degree tear which was stitched at home and healed well. I was happy with that outcome for me! Definitely think being at home helped with less intervention for me 2nd time round compared to 1st in hospital setting too.
