Fibroids and pregnancy

Just wondering if anybody has experience of fibroids through pregnancy. I have 5 fibroids that are medium size (😫). They are not in particularly tricky places but they are causing me so much pain already at 9 weeks. The midwife said this is only going to get worse as I expand!! So… that’s something to look forward to😂 I will be under a consultant and was told they would more than likely need to deliver baby early, which has given me the fear! Has anyone got any experiences to share about the kind of care and treatment they were given with fibroids and pregnancy. Cheers girls!

I'm currently 6 weeks pregnant and have 3 fibroids, largest 7cm
I've been having abdominal pain and brown bleeding for 5 days, and tbh think I'm having a miscarriage as I'm passing through clots.
How is your pregnancy going ??

I had a fibroid pregnancy. Both baby and me came out healthy at the other end but I was in quite a lot of pain on and off. Also hypertension which may or may not have been related, and because of where fibroid was, I had to have a c-section. So not a nice relaxed pregnancy but a few years on, the memory of that has faded

Hey OP sorry to hear your fibroids are causing you
pain so early on it’s not nice at all and can totally sympathise.

I am going through a fibroid pregnancy and 28+2 currently. I have a large ish fibroid that is approx 8 by 6 by 4 cm and am under consultant care for it. Depending on the fibroid pregnancy can cause them to grow rapidly due to hormones although I have been lucky as mine has stayed the same size for now. It can also cause baby to have restricted growth and fibroids can move to block their natural exit so c-section delivery may be required. Due to this you will most likely have regular growth scans from 32 weeks onwards to monitor baby and the fibroids - this is the current plan for me anyway. Especially as fibroids can mess with fundal height measurements - I was in the 97th centile yesterday when measured 😂😂. I will also be delivering on the delivery suite as there is a higher risk of PPH and I’ve been advised il be on a drip post delivery to prevent excess bleeding post birth.

il be induced at 39 weeks but not because of the fibroids (also IVF pregnancy) and it’s my trusts policy 🤷🏼‍♀️ so unless they foresee any complications not sure why u can’t go to full term I’m afraid. But there is no point stressing about it, what will happen will happen and they will do what is best for you and baby should any complications arise.

just watch out of degeneration! I was admitted at 22 weeks with this and my god the pain!! Was so bad I couldn’t walk and needed morphine in the end. But it did self resolve after a few days and luckily no further episodes touch wood!! I’ve been told there is no treatment for fibroids while pregnant other than symptom management I’m afraid 😥.

wishing you all the best with your pregnancy and hopefully you get some relief from the pain soon xx

@tallgirl232 sorry to hear your bleeding, have you sought any medical attention? Might be worth contacting your GP or local EPU to try and get a scan to see what’s going on.

hope you have a good outcome 🤞🏼🤞🏼

@EmzieMurf1987 thanks for this. It’s really interesting to know. Unfortunately I had a missed miscarriage at 12 weeks, which is something I’m still processing. But I’m being referred to the consultant now which is great. Thanks so much for posting its all good to know x

@Pepperama Thanks for your reply. Sorry to hear your pregnancy wasn’t relaxed but glad you and your baby are healthy! X

@tallgirl232 sorry to hear this. I know it’s a frightening time. I had a small bleed when I was 8 weeks ( which kinda prompted this post) and then no more bleeding. My local EPU really have been wonderful and the scans were fine, however I did have a missed miscarriage eventually. The cause is unknown, fibroids MAY have contributed but then there’s a thousand other reasons why it could have happened as well. Try not to worry but do get yourself checkout for piece of mind x

How large is your largest fibroid ?

I think I'm currently having a miscarriage. I think the discharge is brown only because my cervix is closed so its taking a while for the blood to come out
If it is, I would just like it
I'm just annoyed because my fibroid grew 1 cm, just for me to lose the pregnancy. I've been bleeding brown/ spotting for 6 days now, and the last two days have been clots.

I had a bit of a breakdown yesterday, but now I think I'm ready to move on and try again.

Good luck though xxx
