Look very pregnant at 9 weeks

Its my second pregnancy, so I did expect to be looking a bit more pregnant at 9 weeks than the last one but I honestly look about 6 months along. Granted I am fatter than before (high end of overweight but not obese).

I had a scan at 6 weeks and it was just one heartbeat but now I am scared they missed a second one. How likely is that? Probably, I am just be silly but my DH came back after one night away and he is also a bit surprised by how pregnant I look. 😬

Hi OP could it be bloat? I was massively bloated until 16 weeks or so when it disappeared and I didn’t look pregnant anymore! Now 27 weeks and starting to get a proper baby bump (which is sometimes exaggerated by bloat!) 😂

I was in maternity jeans at 9 weeks! Definitely just bloat on me, it stayed until I got my real bump weeks and weeks later

SamPoodle123 · 12/10/2022 18:52

Perhaps you are bloated? For my third pregnancy I was bloated at 6 weeks, but tiny waist, but a little bump out from bloating. It went away after a couple week and looked normal for a while before the actual bump started to show.

Thanks all, I think bloat must be the answer. Imagine it’s very unlikely the NHSwould miss another baby in there! If in 7 months I have baby twins, I’ll comeback and let you know 😂

When I was 20 weeks pregnant, I noticed a mum friend on the school playground had a bump the same size as mine. I was shocked and apologised saying I hadn't realised she was pregnant too, expecting her due date to be similar to mine. She whispered that she was only 7 weeks gone but was really bloated. That's why I didn't know she was pregnant. Her bump stayed the same size until at least 20 weeks, so the bloating must have lessened as the baby grew.

Congrats on your pregnancy.

@Whyisitdarkalready , part of my concern is that people will know really early! I work from home but have to go in next week and I wanted to keep this a secret till after I had an interview for a promotion in a few weeks time.

Its good to know other ladies suffer from this level of bloating. I, like your friend, have been visibly pregnant since 7 weeks.

I also had a bump by 9 weeks, and had to move to stretchy waistbands/ early maternity gear. Unfortunately mine didn't stop growing, and I could have passed for full term at 20 weeks and multiple babies by full term! Only one baby in there, and DD popped up super long and solid and weighing just short of 10lb.

I remember sending my friend a picture at 9 weeks as she didn't believe it was a proper bump!

anon2022anon · 12/10/2022 20:13

Excuse the messy picture but here you go- was between 8-9 weeks at this point and considering asking them for an early dating scan as I was sure I must be further along!

Thanks @anon2022anon , you definitely do look further along than 8 weeks! Good to know it was only one in there 😀

Even if it was twins OP they would be teeny tiny at 9 weeks, its definitely bloat.

congratulations

Mum2be86 · 12/10/2022 20:58

I’m coming up 14 weeks now so abit further from you guys but have a serious bump and it’s 100% not bloat.

Lillygolightly · 12/10/2022 21:07

I had 3 singleton pregnancies and all took ages to show, especially so my first as I was almost shocked to actually discover there was a baby in there after all 😂

I then had a twin pregnancy and by week 10 I was visibly pregnant and by the end even my maternity stuff didn’t fit me. Absolutely nothing like my first pregnancy where I managed to wear my regular jeans all the way through with just a button extender. I was getting sterilised after the twins so refused to buy any more maternity stuff I wasn’t going to use again, needless to say I was wearing some funny outfits by the end 🙈

I'm only 5 weeks and look like at least second trimester! Guess it's bloat but yes v hard to keep a secret when I clearly look very different!

FistFullOfRegrets · 13/10/2022 06:59

My friend had a big bump early on & couldn't stand anything with a waistband!

it was how she knew she was pregnant with the second. Almost before they DTD 🤣🤣

bumps just grew & grew & both pregnancies ended with single babies who were under 6lb

and the babies are now grown and she's never had an issue with waistbands since!

hope that adds a little reassurance.

It also has to do with the tilt of your pelvis. If your pubic bone is low at the front your womb will be above it rather than behind it and you’ll show earlier.

I've 3 kids. With the third one my belly popped out a few days after ovulation. It was obvious in that people were staring. I was a size 8 before pregnancy so it was obvious on me. By 6 weeks I had to wear clothes to hide it and by 9 weeks my belly was so big that my 6 year asked me was I pregnant. Eventually the bloat gave way to real baby and by the second trimester I was more in proportion for my stage of gestation. However, I did have a big bump the whole way through. I heard that the second your body recognises that you're pregnant, loads of 'switches' automatically go on and off. With me, 'pregnant belly' came on instantly.
