UTI symptoms but clear urine sample

Hello

i am currently 13w5d pregnant and for the last two days have been experiencing back pain and mild abdominal pain.. with urgency to go to toilet not not passing much urine and feeling like I need to go A LOT.

I have taken two samples to the gp both have shown clear. Gp has just said if any bleeding or anything gets worse to call back.

I spoke to my midwife who said just drink plenty which I have been but really don’t feel right.

has any one experienced similar or know what could be causing the symptoms if no UTI present?

thanks x

Are they just dipping it there and then, or sending it off?

I am high risk due to recurrent kidney problems and part of my health management in pregnancy is a monthly urine test which the specialist said should be sent off, because the dip test might not show an infection in the early stages. I would push back and ask for another sample to be sent for a more detailed analysis.

@QueenOfWeeds they have said they are going to send today’s off even though it isn’t normal practice for them due to the symptoms.

I suffered with UTI for years and so confused as this feels so similar. Tbh I could get to the point of passing blood etc before contacting the doctor before I just got so used to the pain so seems weird for me to feel this rough and it be clear unless it’s caused by something else xx

I had a UTI shortly after my C-section - had ABs but still had symptoms, so went back to the doctor. The dipstick was clear but they sent the sample off anyway - I got a phonecall 48 hours later with a prescription for a longer course because the culture showed an infection.

TBH, I'm surprised, given that you have a history of UTIs AND are pregnant, that they haven't just given you a prescription... I'm all for avoiding overuse, but I think sometimes doctors underprescribe, and people end up taking longer combined courses as a result 🤷🏻‍♀️

@RedDwarfGarbagePod I agree. Whenever I used to get them they’d prescribe without even testing first. I asked yesterday and he said we wouldn’t want to use antibiotics unless absolutely necessary in pregnancy which I understand .. I wouldn’t want to use anything I don’t need to but just feels exactly like one so baffled what else it can be. :(

i have had two MC so a paranoid wreck anyway n the cramping isn’t helping xx

That sounds SO stressful, and they are miserable symptoms anyway! Fingers crossed the sample comes back with an indication of something treatable, or that your symptoms suddenly vanish!

@QueenOfWeeds tbh I was hoping it would come back as infection. Obviously I’d much rather not have one but at least it would explain the symptoms. Now I just feel confused and anxious not knowing what is causing it.. and the fact the other suggestion was a&e really puts me off being seen elsewhere. The wait would be ages and Covid in my area is crazy again and know the local hospital has very high rates so don’t fancy sitting in their a&e for hours feeling uncomfortable to probably be given the same advice as I already have xx
