Telling work I'm pregnant again

Still early days so don't need to worry about this until December, but I'm wondering why I'm so nervous about telling my work. I came back from maternity leave in July 2021, so I've been back a fair while and it's been my job for 8 years. I'm not due until June. It's a small business so I worry they'd be annoyed with me! Just over a 3 year gap between pregnancies. I'm quite an over thinker anyway. Would just like some recurrence really! Thanks

You know you just need to do it. I came back from DS1 in the April and was off again the following April - a 26 month gap between them. I've had colleagues fall pregnant while on Mat leave and only return for weeks in between.

Just put your big girl pants on and tell them. Congratulations!

I'm sure it won't be a surprise to them op, like the previous poster I've known people with far shorter gaps between mat leaves. I worked with one girl for 2 and a half years but only actually saw her for 3 months due to two maternity leaves

I thought you were going to say you’ve come back off maternity leave already pregnant! Which isn’t unheard of. Employers aren’t daft. They know women of child bearing age tend to have a couple of children so it won’t be a surprise to them. I’d just get that meeting out of the way as soon as you feel comfortable - eg after your scan.
Congratulations!

Thanks everyone. I'm quite nervous and a worrier so I tend to overthink things!

I dreaded it (got pregnant unexpectedly the week I went back after a year off - 21 months between them, I was back September 21 to April 22 🙈) but it was ok. Best case scenario they’re genuinely delighted for you, worst case scenario it’s a headache for them and the congratulations are a bit gritted teeth but it’s life - like loads of annoying things at the office you don’t take it personally and yheyll make it work. Plus you are legally protected - there’s only so much they can say if they’re not arseholes!

It'll basically be two years since your maternity leave ended before your next one starts. That's a long time!

Employers know people will potentially have more than 1 baby, it's unlikely to cause any upset. I went back after DD1 pregnant and due to my accrued leave etc only worked for 4months! I'm due tomorrow with baby number 3, my eldest is 4 next week! I work for a big company so it's less of an 'issue' but I'm sure everyone will be thrilled for you :)
