Successful sweep stories please? I’m 39+4 today went into triage today for spotting and they said my cervix was shorting and I was 1cm dilated so they managed to do a sweep for me she said she managed to do a pretty good one then she also said I had a pretty good bishop score (whatever that means lol) so I guess I’m just wondering if anyone else had a sweep around this time and was it successful and if so how long did it take for you to go into Labour and did it start with contractions or you waters breaking.

Had a sweep at 38 weeks (not.in the uk) appointment was at 10am, waters broke at 6pm and was holding my daughter by 7:15 (second child)

Had a sweep at 1.20pm at 38+1, baby was born at 38+2 at 8.30am. I will add though midwife said I was already 4cm and waters were bulging and baby was imminent so wasn't a complete surprise.

1st baby, swept at lunchtime, a really good thorough Sweep which removed my plug, baby arrived 24 hours later. 2nd, swept at 11am, they said I was already 4cm dilated and I could stay if wanted, I didn't as I had shopping on the car that needed to go in the fridge Grin, baby arrived 24 hours later.

That's really good, did you have any signs of Labour coming after the sweep and how long did it take to start after the sweep to see signs?

Awww I hope I'm the same! How dilated was you when they did the first sweep did they say? And what signs of Labour did you have after and how long did it take to start

@sophieaskerx at the time I didn't think I had any signs before but I felt like I'd needed a poo since the night before my sweep and thought I was constipated (to the point where I thought I was pushing for a poo until the midwife told me the head was out Blush). I picked DD up from school roughly 90 mins after the sweep and I was struggling to walk as I could feel pressure. Woke up at 5am the next morning not knowing if I was in labour or not, started timing them and by 5.45am I knew I was. Then like I say DS was here less than 3 hours later.
Good luck!

@sophieaskerx and it's less than a 5 minute walk to the school it's not as though I'd gone on a mile long walk.

Oh my gosh!! Bless you, I'm still not feeling much just pressure down there when I stand and having like brown ish discharge so think that may be more of my plug starting to come away, just in bed resting seeing what the night will bring Grin

So with the first I don't know how far I was dilated, swept around midday, definitely contracting by mid evening, went to hospital as frequent and strong at 2am and she arrived after a long but non interventional labour at 12pm. I had an episiotomy but nothing else.
The second, I was 4cm dilated at Sweep at 11am, definitely contracting in afternoon, went out for dinner (!!!) around 5pm, (didn't stay for dessert). Left for hospital about 10pm as contracting frequently and strongly, 8cm on arrival but still another 12hours til he arrived at 10am.
